Excellent stop over with friendly but not intrusive owners and comfy bedrooms with classic 21st century country house decor. Residents lounge with honesty bar was a plus and super home cooked breakfast...recommended!

We had the pleasure of staying at Plas Uchaf recently while our eldest daughter was attending the nearby Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital.
You approach the house up a winding country lane across rolling fields, populated with a herd of well fed cattle lazily chewing their cud. A cattle grid leads onto the large gravel driveway and as soon as you step out of the car the chickens and at least one cat come to investigate which our two year old daughter thought was fantastic! (Incidentally Chris does not allow the cats into the B&B section of the house at all so no need to worry about allergies).
Speaking of Chris - right behind the chickens he was straight out and welcoming us in, showing us our sumptuous rooms with stunning views across the welsh hills; our room had a huge double bed with massive luxurious on suite (shower and bath) and the travel cot provided was perfect.
My wife and daughter couldn't get a taxi for the time in the morning they needed to get to the hospital (we had planned for them to go to the hospital and for me to keep our youngest entertained). When we asked the night before for help booking a taxi, rather than put us in the hands of firms they did not know the reliability of, Chris' wife Julie came to the rescue offering a lift as she was heading that way anyway - ridiculously helpful service!
Breakfast was beautifully prepared with lots of fresh fruit and our two year old loved feeding the chickens in the morning; Chris lent me maps and details of walks to keep her happy - she loved his suggestion of Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall which was beautiful (top tip - take cash, they don't accept cards).
All in all Chris and Julie turned a visit with a potential for high levels of stress and worry into a fairly relaxing break (well as relaxing as an outpatients surgery visit could possibly be!)
We are already planning to return in happier circumstances.

Room Tip: Every room we saw was excellent, the hotel is far removed from an already very quiet main road and t...

What do you imagine as you read about Uchaf? Probably not the very different style of B and B from that usually on offer. This is a large Queen Anne Country House up a long drive, set against a hillside and overlooking lovely countryside. There are extensive grounds, birdlife, a croquet lawn, walled garden, all there for you to enjoy. Inside is a large entrance hall, equally large and comforable guest lounge, huge bedroom (and huge bed) and large bathroom. It is different, and interesting and an experience. Dinner can be provided with choice of menu and 2 or 3 courses. B/fast has fresh fruit, a variety of juices and preserves as well as a full cooked Welsh b/fast with large and delicious flatcap mushrooms.
At the gateway to Wales this is a good place to start your exploration of the area.

As previously commented on in previous review don't be put off by the fact that this place is marketed as a Guest House an B&B. It is SO much more than that. The location is gorgeous with fantastic views. We stayed there as part of a Wedding party. The rooms are to die for, very large and extremely comfortabe. The duvet was light in weight but very warm, forgot to ask the make a my wife wants one. The service from Chris was second to none, from the welcome to the best breakfast you will ever have. The fact that it is a B&B does not alter the fact that you can order evening meals from a menu or given enough notice, anything you want. Their is a lively lounge with a well stocked,'serve yourself' bar where you write down what you have.
If in the area for whatever reason, this is definitely the place to stay.

This is the most beautiful 18th century house in a stunning setting. Watching the tiny lambs by the front door was magical. The hotel itself is both elegant and comfortable. Our room was very spacious and had nice touches such as chocolates in the room. Toiletries were gorgeous- so much so that I am off to buy some for my own bathroom. The hotel is well run by the host and his wife Chris and Julie who are also both fantastic chefs-It was worth going here for the food alone which was all freshly prepared and using local ingredients with some interesting and unusual things on the menu. My friend loved the ravioli filled with cockles and lava bread.
There is a relaxing lounge with a fire and well stocked honesty bar where we could have sat up half the night chatting!
We enjoyed visiting the nearby waterfall, climbing up to the iron fort and driving around a nearby lake. Good value too. We will certainly be returning.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have great views

Thank you for your very nice review. We are both glad you enjoyed Plas Uchaf and the food we prepared. fWe would be delighted if you return again you may want to have a look at our premier rooms on the first floor. They are even larger with full size Queen Anne windows for the view.
