Very good Food and Value for money, suitable for vegetarians. Excellent location. Small restaurant. Shame about service and restaurant as food's Very good. Personally wouldn't recommend the Wynnstay is Much Better.

Stayed here recently in this characterful hotel in the town centre.Large car-park.Very good real ale with four hand pumps and properly cooked food. My dinner was a well balanced veggie option. The gravy was good and cauliflower firmly done including greens. The breakfast in the morning was good overall but no muesli .The veggie, cooked option was a very full plate indeed with the beans in a ramikin which I liked. The cooked tomatoes were unripe and hard. There was a choice of white or wholemeal toast with butter and jams..The staff were friendly and helpful. The faults with this hotel are room related..Whilst being clean there was no toilet roll holder.. Loose radiator valves. A stupidly- placed glass shelf above the tiny shower room sink meant you could not lower your face for bathing/ shaving etc.A large Kitchen extractor near by was still going full blast at midnight,(And probably afterwards). The pine bedroom furniture was very dated, looking as if it had been sourced from a charity shop...To be blunt the stay here is not cheap and the rooms need to be modernised properly not in this rushed, haphazard manner in order for the hotel to offer value for money.

I shall start with the good points, nice sized room, great location in the middle of Machynlleth, ample parking at the rear of the hotel, and breakfast satisfactory.
The curtains were so thin they let day light in, our room had a frosted class panel which let in the light from the hall way.
Our room was right above where staff were taking cigarette breaks so was woken by some "colourful" language, not a pleasant wake up call.
The furniture was very out dated and the general appearance of the room was shabby, it definatly needs of a complete revamp as £70 was way over priced, I have paid less and got more of my money. I think the owners urgently need to re-decorate or bring their prices down.

Only had lunch there but they were very friendly, the food was excellent and I had a guest beer that was very downable.

A little disorganised because they only reopened after a 3 week refurb.

Friendly staff and prompt service. The food a touch on the dear side, however not only was hot and homemade, but also cared about. All the veg were fresh, the gravy made with meat juices and the yorkies homemade and huge. This will be our regular Sunday lunch stop from now.

Stayed one night in October. At £70 for a double B&B it was more than I've paid elsewhere. The hotel has recently been taken over by a new landlord/landlady both of whom were very friendly and obviously wanted to make us comfortable. Check in was quick and easy and we were directed to our room on the 2nd floor (no lift but it is a very old building). The room looked a bit tatty. The radiator, which had no means of controlling the temperature was on full at 6pm and, as the room was fairly small, the heat was overwhelming. The room had two adjoining electric points one of which had an extension lead attached to provide power to the only bedside lamp. Tiny space between one side of the bed and the wardrobe. The only mirror was in the shower room and, as the electric points were at the other side of the room, it would have required an industrial length extension lead for a hairdryer to reach. The bathroom was clean although the shower door was difficult to keep shut! Also the shower was weak.
We caught up with the landlady and mentioned the heating and lack of a mirror. To be fair she immediately tracked down a small mirror and said she'd get someone to look at the heating.
We got back to find the heating off (understandably as the system was probably on a timer).
We had a good night's sleep (we'd both had a very long day) although the bed sheet looked worn and dingy - I think it was clean.
Breakfast was, to be honest, average. My "full English" was OK but my husband's poached egg was overcooked. Only white toast was provided with no alternative offered.
When we went to pay it turned out that the change of ownership meant that they couldn't accept credit cards and we ended up paying by cash (the landlady suggested we could go to a nearby cashpoint). She apologised profusely, explaining that it was to do with the recent change of ownership but it was a bit disconcerting. The landlady told us that they were shortly starting a major refurbishment programme - it's definitely needed. As I said everyone was friendly and I'm sure that refurbishment will help but there were some basic faults which the new owners should have dealt with. I wish them well although, if I have to visit this neck of the woods again, I'll probably stay elsewhere. The main good points are: parking at the back of the hotel and a central location.
