Since last visit the White Lion has undergone a refurbishment. As the sun was shining we ordered and sat out in the garden which is pretty sizeable. Sunday roast beef from the specials board was to be recommended - two nice thick slices of beef with a light yorkshire, boiled and roast potatoes plus a separate plate of vegetables - four or five diffent types all nicely cooked. The horseraddish had a good kick. Beef pie was perfectly acceptable. Too full for desserts.

After 6pm, Machynlleth closes down. Most pubs look a bit scruffy, but the White Lion (nr the clock tower) is a bit better than that, although not as posh as the Wynnstay. The inside can feel a bit off putting when quiet, but the food is good and inexpensive. Had sausage and mash, came with decent veg - not over-cooked. Enjoyed the Snowdonia beer. Expect to go again.

Despite being Market Day, very busy and places to sit being very scarce we were served within 15 minutes of ordering. Both our meals were well cooked good plain fair with perfectly adequate portions. Drinks at the bar were well kept and reasonably priced. All staff were very pleasant and always busy clearing, cleaning and tidying when not serving.
A well run town centre establishment which I am happy to recommend.
Incidentally the street market (Wednesdays a.m.) is well worth a visit with large numbers of stalls including very traditional greengrocers, butchers, etc. etc. just like the old days.

The White Lion has been refurbished to a high standard. The beer is good and food very good. Haven't stayed there but I hear the rooms are lovely.

We dined in The White Lion at approximately 6pm for four consecutive evenings during mid August.( Tue 13th-Fri 16th ).
On each occasion we were able to access a table with ease and after ordering at the bar were served with our meals within about 20 mins.
We enjoyed Steak and Ale pies and Roast Beef dinners and thought the price of £8:45 each was very reasonable.
The staff were polite and obliging and the atmosphere pleasant.
Overall, four very enjoyable hours spent dining here whilst on holiday and we would have no hesitation in returning if we ever visit the area again.
Well done to you all and thankyou.
