We were not welcomed very warmly on arrival, the place smelled very strongly of fish, as though they had forgotten to use the extractor fans and there was no music. The food was okay but nothing special. I don't think I'd go again.

“Lovely food and decor and lovely staff”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

Really nice selection of food from the menu, staff were absolutely amazing and really looked like they cared about the place. One regret though was with the parmesan crusted plaice - not enough parmesan or salsa verde! :) We shall come again next time :)

“Fab food!”
Reviewed 15 February 2013

We've visited Glan yr afon on 4 occasions during the last 4 months. On each occasion we've had wonderful food. I particularly enjoyed the duck with red cabbage, sauteed potatoes and redcurrent sauce. Yum! The surroundings are lovely and the staff are extremely polite, helpful and friendly. We will definitely be visiting again when we'll be in the machynlleth area.

“Great food and a massive selection of ales”
Reviewed 12 February 2013

Awesome food and an amazing selection of real ale and continental lagers.

Friendly staff went out of their way to help and its great to have a pub that offers a sample of ales before committing to buy. tanks!

“A Tasty Place”
Reviewed 7 February 2013

First Impressions

Glan Yr Afon is a delightful family run public house in the sleepy village of Pennal. It has been tastefully renovated and lends itself to a good eating establishment rather that a drinker’s pub with food. The décor of tiled floors white walls and minimalistic furnishings are modern and very tasteful.

The Food & Service.

There are two menu’s here, the regular dinner menu serves an array of delightful food and local produce is evident from locally caught Aberdovey Sea Bass to Welsh Black Sirloin and other tasty gastro pub delights. They also provide a weekly set menu for a reduced price (2 courses for £10) and this has many tasty dishes such as mushrooms on toasted Panini with balsamic vinegar, Fish Pie with winter vegetables and Homemade Fish Cake salad & Fries. The service here is outstanding with very friendly staff and Glyn & Corina are the perfect hosts, as are their staff.

I enjoyed my visit to Glan Yr Afon that much that I returned the following week for a second time and the service and the food was just as good. Great service and hearty food at a reasonable price.

Service- 9/10
The Food- 8 /10
Value for Money - 9/10. The meal, 2 courses and drinks cost £25.00 for 2 people.
