“Awful, rude, dismissive owner. Do not stay.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2009

Arrived at 1.30 having travelled 5 hours to visit a relative in the town. No one was at the Guest House, rang a number of times, no answer so waited. Twenty minutes later someone arrived and we were shown to our room. Went to have a shower, freezing cold water, so my partner went to ask if we were working the shower correctly. We were told that all rooms other than that one ran of their own electric, but the room we were in ran from the mains. Number 7 must have had a bath so there was no hot water left! I then went down to ask if we could use another facility or if the owner new how long it might take for the shower to heat up so that I could let my relative know we were running late. His words were "I have no idea, what do you want me to do about it, "normal" people do not turn up at 1pm wanting a shower, if you dont like it, dont stay, just leave" The owner continued in this manner, stipulating the word "normal" on a couple of occassions, and making it very obvious that he did not want us to stay, all apparently becuase we asked how long the water would take to heat up!! Maybe number 7 weren "normal" as they had already had a bath!!! Due to this we ended up not staying and having to endure a 600mile round trip in one day. DO NOT BOOK HERE.

What a pity that these two ladies had an unhappy hour with us, due to the temporary lack of hot water at 2.00pm.

We have run Maenllwyd for 30years and in the whole of that time I have never been called rude. I have learned though, that some folks will not be satisfied whatever you do or say.

Future guests, please visit and draw your own conclusions. you are assured of a warm welcome, clean rooms and a relaxing visit.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2007

My wife and I stayed here for two nights as part of a walking trip along Glendwr's way. They were full, and we had a slightly cramped attic room. It was clean, but the shower was pretty feeble (no bath). Breakfast was a good standard cooked breakfast, with cereals, toast, juice, etc. The owners were friendly and helpful, eg doing breakfast early when we wanted an early start, looking after luggage, etc.
