My wife and I don't do for all this modern fancy glamour, with seating designed by graduates in their first jobs: might look good (some do) but don't do anything for comfort. Milebrook House has a lounge with proper quality good old fashioned comfortable chairs, complete with log fire.
The bedrooms arre quite spacious, again with quality furniture and comfortable beds.
The food is second to none, with an exceedingly good menu at realistic prices.
Best of all is the fact that the staff are there just for you.
My wife and I have made two visits to this most enjoyable establishment.

My wife and I recently returned for our fourth visit, having last stayed 2 years ago. Nothing has changed, I am glad to say. The Hotel retains its charm and is efficiently overseen by Mrs Marsden (a human dynamo who never seems to be off duty) and her family. The staff were all hard-working and eager to please. Food was excellent and my wife was satisfied with the available items on the separate Vegetarian Menu. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Bar now stocks bottled 'Old Speckled Hen' which I do not recall from previous visits.

The Hotel has splendid gardens leading to the river Teme and there are some good local walks both from Milebrook and the nearby village of Bucknell. Alternatively, a relaxing afternoon in the gardens (if you are lucky with the weather) can be equally rewarding.

My only complaint is that the shower in our room lacked power and was little more than a trickle. Like other things in life, perhaps it was due to bad timing? That said, it did not detract too much from our 2-nights stay. As other reviewers have pointed out, if you detest the anonymity and impersonal service of modern-day Chain Hotels, then Milebrook House is definitely the place for you!

We spent 2 nights the past week, The family run hotel was clean, the bed was a metal bedstead which I wondered would be comfortable, but we both slept very well, It's quiet, the food was good, but the menu was the same both nights, except for the soup. There was a shortage of choice, no salads e.g ham or turkey salad.
The soups were very good indeed, some of the best I have ever tasted. Mr & Mrs Marsden and their daughter Joanne go out of there way to make your stay enjoyable this they did very well.
but one member of the dining room staff was awful and when asked if she was new, said she was not but obviously did not know what to do. Kept getting things wrong. It is a good place to stay if you want to walk, but Knighton 2 miles away is very small hilly with just a few shops, we stayed 10 minutes and saw nearly all of it.
Would we stay again definitely yes. But would like to see a wider menu. You have no choice of table we were sat near the verandah door its was a bit chilly, but we were moved the next day after asking to move.
Shortage of parking, but the hotel only has 10 rooms. Only issue is that if you want to watch TV its not for you, reception is awful

Thank you for your comments.
Our menu has five choices of each course plus vegetarian, for people staying more than two nights we change at least one of each courses. Salads could be requested but we would not have any turkey or probably ham available.
As far as we know we have never had an awful member of staff, if we had they would not last very long.
The surrounding area is hilly, we're set in the beautiful Teme Valley with fantastic walking country all around. Knighton is a small market town with some lovely shops to look around if you want to take your time to look around properly.
Our TV reception was a problem in this area, we've now upgraded to Freesat which has over 100 channels with first class reception.
Parking for the number of rooms we have is more than ample.

Our fourth visit to this hotel over the last 10 years. On this occasion experienced very poor t.v reception (possibly due to weather conditions). Quality food as always with just one minor complaint - the marmalade was of poor quality 10 years ago and still is! Good attentive service from female Polish waiters. Possibly now a little dated in some areas but would return without hesitation.

Room Tip: Rooms in the extension, built 1996, are larger but more expensive!

We picked this hotel from an internet search and read previous reviews; we were not disappointed. We were warmly greeted, found our room to be well-appointed and comfortable, and as for the restaurant - the food was superb! There was an added bonus to discover that this had been the family home of the famous explorer Sir Wilfred Thesiger and while the style of the hotel is redolent of those days, this for us was its strength and we enjoyed the atmosphere very much. Set in beautiful countryside, this hotel met our needs and more.

Room Tip: If mobility is an issue, ask for a ground floor room.

Very enjoyable stay at Milebrook House Hotel, the room was very comfortable, we were given a warm welcome in the lounge with a cup of tea and toasted crumpet and a lovely log fire was burning in the room. The food was good and we would go back to this hotel. Good value. The public rooms could do with a brightening up, but was clean, warm and very comfortable

This hotel quite simply serves the best food known to man, i would compare it to the waterside at bray (which i have eaten twice). the hotel its self needs a total update and looks very tired, it sieams like a old peoples home in one instance, but with AMAZING food and wine.

The rooms are very dated and also need updating as its 2012 in a few months.

I am very excited about re visting the Milebrook again in the new year.
Would very much reconmend to anyone.
A++
