We enjoyed our second stay here at Sutton Mawr Farm, excellent service and nothing s to much trouble, quiet location and relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast is always fresh and lots of choice, dinning area has dvd, WII and pool table for kids too. Very clean and good value for money!! Definitely will come again and bring the kids next time!! Will hope to have a tour around the farm with the kids next time too!!

Room Tip: Brecon room is the new family room, Gypsy Rose is a railway carriage which sleeps two adults, separa...

We had the nicest welcome on arrival with each of being given a cup of tea and a slice of home baked Victoria sponge by Bert. We crossed the yard made up of an uneven concrete surface and weeds to our room "Glamorgan". The room had a super king size bed which can be changed to twin beds if preferred. The bed was extremely comfortable. The room is large, with a high ceiling. It is clean, nicely decorated and has a television. Fresh drinking water is provided each day in your room and Welsh cakes are supplied on the day you arrive. There are also tea making facilities. The ensuite is a reasonable size with a good sized shower with an electric shower. There is free wifi with a booster in each room. Unfortunately it did not work in our room with my ipad or iphone. We were assured it would be fixed next week. However, wifi was available in the office 10 yards away. There is also an imac with internet access available for general use in the office.
There is a free continental breakfast with freshly baked brown and white bread, a toaster, home made marmalade and raspberry jam plus peanut butter. Ham and cheese, cereals and fruit juice. Fresh tea or coffee are provided. For an extra £5 you can get the full monty breakfast, 2 eggs, 2 sausages, bacon, tomato, mushrooms and beans cooked by Anita who is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is served a little late for early risers at 8 am week days and 8.30 am weekends. Meals are served in a large upstairs room which contains a DVD player and a good selection of films. There is also a radio, a pinball machine and a pool table.
The owners Mark and Victoria are very friendly. We mainly saw Mark who was very helpful and gave my wife a tour of the farm. Free cake was always available and guests are allowed to use the kitchen facilities. There is also a small free gym.
Evening meals are sometimes available by prior arrangement on the day of booking. There are numerous places to eat. Not all good! We did not like the 3 Horseshoes which is very near. However, The Bush in St Hilary was brilliant and we highly recommend it.
The Sutton Mawr consists of independent rooms. It is not a hotel or BB or self catering. But a mix of these. We found it very relaxing.
A car is essential as there is no public transport. However, it is a great location for accessing Cardiff, Barry and places such as St Fagans and the Hawking centre by car.
This is one of the nicest places we have stayed. Much better than many hotels. We will definitely stay here next time we visit Wales.

My wife and I actually live in Rhoose which is nearby, and we stayed here for 3 weeks whilst work was going on in our house, it became to us a second home..
Sutton Mawr is tucked away in a beautiful spot within the Vale of Glamorgan, its owners are fantastic, couldnt be more helpful, the rooms are decorated exceptionally, spotless clean and has everything you need. The "full english" breakfast uses the farms own produce, such as the sausages which is fantastic. I really can't praise this place enough, im always a sceptic when it comes to reading others reviews on this website, but im pleased to confirm it really is "that great!"

Instantly liked Sutton Mawr and the owners, within minutes of arriving here !
It differs from other B & B,s we have stayed in that you have your own little building within a very communal and attractive courtyard which offers the best of both worlds!
Every aspect of our stay was a genuine treat !

A beautiful B&B on a farm just outside Cardiff. This was a perfect place to unwind and relax, only a few minutes from Cardiff. We had the cottage, which consisted of two bedrooms with a king sleigh for us and two singles for the kids. Also included is a kitchen with laundering facilities, and a sitting room. We adored it and both Mark and Victoria made us feel at home. Bert was a gem who welcomes you with tea and a cheerful face. I feel that this is a place that you should seek out, especially if you have kids. They will enjoy meeting the dogs and farm animals and collecting the eggs each morning after a very welcome breakfast. We did not test Vicki's skills, but if the cakes on arrival are any indication, we missed out!. There are quaint pubs close by for dining, just ask Victoria and Mark for a recommendation. Videos and books are available to all for relaxing evening time out (try and find the All Creatures Great and Small DVD!) Thanks guys.
