“Bank Holiday visit.”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

My husband & I stumbled across this lovely café, ordered sandwiches, cake & coffee. Enjoyable comfy chairs, reading the paper. Then all hell broke loose! 3 dog's came in, with owner's. Sniffing around our food, had to move our food, the dogs were fidgety, whining, & put us off. Guide dogs are well behaved, trained dog's, we then realised that it was a Dog friendly Café, which is a great idea on Principle. Put us off. It's a shame as the food was lovely, decor is great but just no dog's. I am a dog lover but not when 3 blunder in and spoil the morning. Sorry.

“Cadwaladers Ice cream...and coffee! Amazing!”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

This funky, upbeat cafe looks a little out of place in run-down Barry Island, but their luxury ice cream will keep you coming back for more! I think i found the perfect blend of coffee at long last! A really polite service from Aaron and Adey. A comfy sofa and books to read. This place was a major consolation for the horrible weather. See you soon guys!

“More like a pet shop than a coffee shop.”
Reviewed 6 April 2014 via mobile

My partner and I drove to Barry purposely to visit this coffee shop as we have enjoyed it previously. We were extremely disappointed. We entered the coffee shop and ordered our drinks. What a mistake. The coffee shop was full of dogs, some of which were running around freely. Due to the wet weather there was an over powering smell of wet dog. I don't personally think it's acceptable to have dogs running around a coffee House which is serving food. Very unhygienic. We approached the counter to cancel our order and we're told this was a dog friendly company as stated on the window which we had missed. We were made to feel like we were being difficult for asking to cancel the order. I will never return!

Thank you for your review.
We take customer satisfaction very seriously, so we really appreciate your feedback.

We are sorry that the dogs in our Barry Island branch have given you a bad impression of our store.

Our dog policy only allows clean and well behaved pets to sit in our cafes. Any dogs seeming to be disruptive or unclean will not be allowed inside.
Dogs never enter the food preparation areas, so please be assured that due to our high standards of hygiene our dog policy does not affect the services we provide. Reflecting this, our Barry cafe currently holds a level 4 in the environmental health inspection certificate.

We believe allowing dog owners in store with their pets allows them more comfort. Especially when the weather is cold and miserable. These are the same reasons families choose to dine inside after a pleasant walk.

We have also now introduced a dog guideline policy into our stores to ensure that customers understand we do not allow dirty pets in our stores.

However we apologise that you did not receive the high level of customer service we expect of all our stores and we would like to rectify the situation; the incident will be fully investigated, please email: info@cadwaladers.com with more information and a contact address so that we may let you know our findings.

Kind Regards
Cadwaladers

“Very pleasant”
Reviewed 3 April 2014

We arrived on Barry Island, having recently moved to the area and deciding that it had to be done (Gavin and Stacey and all that!). The front is having money spent on it so when it is finished it will be very nice. We looked at a few different cafes but decided that Cadwaladers was definitely the pick of the bunch. Big comfy seats, a pleasant atmosphere with nice decor was just right. We ordered coffees and bacon rolls which we all thoroughly enjoyed. The service was prompt and polite, and we had an enjoyable, relaxing hour.

“Not good”
Reviewed 31 March 2014

I recently visited this establishment one sunny Saturday afternoon. A lot of the tables had not been cleared and the floor looked messy and dirty. I ordered a Knickerbocker Glory but basically all I got was jelly and ice cream with a blob of whipped cream. No fruit or syrup which are vital ingredients in this classic dessert. How they can call it Knickerbocker Glory is beyond me. The ice cream was nice but that's about all. Shan't be rushing back there!!
