“Expected waaay more for the price”

We were staying here as we wanted to accommodate a large party (10 people) for two weeks. Pictures are not true to life and amenities lacking (no dishwasher, internet so slow that sometimes email wouldn’t work- forget about Netflix or YouTube, the phone stopped working, etc.)
An army of bullet ants came pouring out of our air conditioner one night and the representative told us to move the bed!
The place smelled musty and the the pool overflowed into the casita one night. The pool guy belatedly showed up two days later.
No bathtubs, no tv working, no internet, and since you are on the outskirts of town you will have a hard time getting a cell signal.
Beach is rough (like dangerous to swim in rough) and covered with sand fleas. Easy enough to walk up to the beach and pay for a 8 dollar margarita but hardly holiday worthy.

Management Response

We appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback. It sounds like you would have been better off had you followed your original inclanation to stay at a hotel for your visit. As clearly stated prior to your wife and son making this reservation, renting a single family home can have idiosyncrasies and issues can occur unexpectedly, much like they might at one’s own home from time to time.

With that said, I would like to address a few things about your complaints.

The pictures were taken just 7 months before your stay, so they are very true to what you had arrived to.

The amenities you were missing are not advertised for this home. While it’s true that this home does not have a dishwasher, guaranteed internet fast enough for streaming Netflix or YouTube, bathtubs or guaranteed cell service, none of these were ever promised or advertised.

The internet availability and speed is an unfortunate issue for this town. The phone company that supplies most of San Pancho has over supplied the area and has not provided enough bandwidth to cover their clients needs. We live here year round and operate a business here and can tell you it is very frustrating. There are areas in Mexico where the internet is not anywhere near the dependability that you may be used to. This small beach pueblo is one of them.

The possibility of ants and other insects is another thing to consider when traveling to a tropical beach area in Mexico and renting a single family home in an actual jungle. We need to clarify that although we are not a hotel, you reported this issue at 7:40pm at night and you were responded to by 8pm. Since it was 8pm at night, we told you someone would be out in the morning and my exact words were "Is it possible to move the mattress or bed to another side of the room for the evening?” We never received a response. Had you answered “no”, we would have done our best to arrange for another option. I explained the property had been sprayed recently and being located in the jungle, that it is possible that a moving colony of ants may find a way to move through. It happens at my own home and it can be irritating but this is tropical jungle and these things happen.

The pool overflowed because the water delivery service provided too much water, just a simple accident on their part.

We apologize on behalf the internet provider, the water service delivery, your cell provider, the ocean, the ants and whoever charged you $8 for the margarita!

We do hope you enjoyed the hotel you ended up going to and would suggest that that sort of accommodation would be the best fit for you in the future.

Thank you again for taking the time to provide your feedback, it is good for everyone to have clear expectations.
