“Wonderful B&B with great proprietors”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 February 2013

We spent 4 nights at Casa Obelisco and enjoyed it greatly. The property is very nice, exceptionally clean, and in a quiet location very close to the beach. The proprietors John and Judi are great hosts and excellent guides as you seek to explore the region. Breakfast is served daily and we had four wonderful and different breakfasts - it was something we looked forward to each day. John and Judi are so kind and accessible - they even left their apartment open so we could watch the Super Bowl on their couch. We immediately felt at home!

The location is at the very end of the beach in San Pancho and it's only a one minute walk to the quiet sands. It's well-known that the San Pancho beach is not a great swimming beach - the waves were reasonably big when we were there and it is said to have dangerous rip tides. It is, however, an awesome beach as it's nearly empty and devoid of high-rises and beach vendors. You can walk the length of the beach and see nobody at times. It also is a prime location for seeing sunsets. The town is quiet and cute with a surprising number of good restaurants. John and Judi can steer you towards many good options, depending upon your preferences. We did spend three days in Sayulita after leaving San Pancho, and we also liked the experience there. It's more touristy and a little busier/louder but we still really enjoyed getting to explore and see more of the region.

Our only wish was that the wifi range was extended to get more reliable service in the rooms and by the pool. Admittedly, we didn't really need to be online, but sometimes it's nice to catch up on work emails while lying by the pool. Of note, the pool is great - heated, plenty of sun and shaded areas, with a small bar (where we had excellent fresh guacamole and chips). They have plenty of comfy lounge chairs so you're never fighting to get a good seat!

This was our first trip to San Pancho, which had been recommended by friends. We arrived at the end of the slow season, so a number of the good restaurants in town weren't open yet, but we had a wonderful time anyway. We were the only guests, and Bill was an excellent host with loads of information about San Pancho. The casa is located very near the beach at the far end of town, and views from the breakfast area were stunning. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with french doors opening onto a terrace with a hammock and seating area. We spent some of the hot days in the beautiful pool and our evenings watching the turtles come up to lay their eggs on the beach (which were removed by volunteers working to save the turtle population). Walking to town by beach or road was tiring due to the heat, but at other times of the year it would probably be more pleasant. All in all, it was a great end to our three-week Mexican vacation.

I've been to San Pancho a few times, and decided to try a new location this time around for my wife's first visit. I couldn't be happier with Casa Obelisco and our hosts John and Judi. We enjoyed the peaceful mornings, waking up to the ocean sounds and birds. Having a deck with a hammock was a great location for reading or relaxing between visits to the beach or town.

Evie, who works the pool-side bar, was great. She taught my wife spanish while cooking delicious snacks (or full lunches) and drinks for us.

The beach is very close. We used the provided boogie boards to play in the surf and we typically walked along the beach once or twice each day. Although you can also walk inland, or take a taxi, the beach is a great walk and allowed us to keep an eye out for whales and hatching turtles.

My wife and I would definitely stay at Casa Obelisco again.

My fiance and I were in Casa Obelisco for a week, on our first trip without our 18-month old. Bill and Evie are saints:

Bill made us feel instantly at home - with his breakfasts, conversation, eating and activity recommendations, and introductions to all the characters in San Pancho. He even helped us get the best rental car deal, and plan a day trip to the town of Tequila. Absolutely the best host.

Evi, what can I say? Liz and I were at Casa Obelisco during the quiet time in April and Evie came everyday, served amazing guac and margs, introduced us to her brother, who knows all the best surf spots, and then met us for blues and ribs during the evening in town. She was also gracious about encouraging me to re-engage in Spanish and didn't judge when my mangled spanglish was out of control.

Casa Obelisco, amazing spot!

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful. We stayed in two rooms and both were spectacular.

We spent a week in Puerto Vallarta at a large resort. We then came up to San Pancho for another four days and stayed at Casa Obelisco. What a great contrast.
Casa Obelisco was perfect. The rooms are plenty large as you're not going to spend much time inside. Very well appointed, comfortable and with very nice sized bathroom / shower. We hung out at the beautiful pool, either by ourselves or maybe one other couple. Evie would show up in the afternoon and be available for making ridiculously good margaritas, guacamole and quesadillas (among other choices). Bill, our host, was awesome. He'd get us going each morning with a super breakfast of coffee, fresh OJ, fresh fruit and one of his signature Mexican breakfast dishes. If he was heading into town, he'd check and see if we wanted a ride in and also gave us great tips for shopping and eating in town.
San Pancho was one of the friendliest towns we've been to. Easy access from Casa Obelisco. Maybe a mile and a quarter walk via the beach and maybe a mile and three-quarter via road. Easier walk on the road as you're not dealing with the ultra soft sand but then again not near as scenic. When in town, check out the restaurants on the beach. We particularly liked La Perla. Daniel is the owner's son and took really good care of us. Another great place just up from the beach is Azul de Puerco, the Blue Pig. Greg, the ex-pat owner, has a great thing going there. Super good BBQ and often has blues bands playing in the evening. On top of that, Evie from Casa Obelisco works there most nights, tending bar. Also, had a chance to play the local golf course. It was wonderful. We got out at 8:00am and didn't see anyone else on the course the entire round.
Really enjoyed Puerto Vallarta but really, really enjoyed the small town atmosphere of San Pancho.

we just spent 10 wonderful days in san Pancho! we loved the little town....it really grows on you! Very friendly and safe. We found Casa Obelisco to be exactly perfect for us. Quiet, beautiful, friendly and spacious.
Often we were the only ones there and our host Bill still expended every effort to make sure our stay was perfect. His breakfasts were good. Evie was a highlight...she makes the best guac and margs around.
Very comfortable king beds, spacious tiled deck(we stayed in Las Flores), lovely pool and main area over-looking the sea. The location was lovely.
Thanks Bill.

We came to San Pancho for a wedding and stayed a couple of night at Hotel Obelisco. It was delightful. Bill, our host, was very accommodating to our needs. We hope to come back in the future. The area is a hidden treasure.
