Decameron Los Cocos
Reviewed 23 February 2013

We travelled to Rincon de Guayabitos for a 1 week vacation on Feb.8th. This was are 4th time to this resort and it was as good as the first time. We were travelling with a group of 12 friends and met up with 6 more friends and family at Los Cocos. Are stay at the Decameron Los Cocos was in building #2. The rooms are dated but were more than adequate for the amount of time we spent in them. We like staying in the buildings close to the beach for the convenience. You are close to the ocean, the food and the bars. The beach is like a busy, hustling and bustling street with vendors and tourists walking up and down the beach all day. The vendors are plentiful but this is how a lot of them make their living and the tourist season is short. The staff are excellent at this resort and very attentive. We found the food to be quite good and some of our group commented that this was some of the best food they've had at an all-inclusive. It is a great place to go and relax and take life easy. It is also fun to go and explore the town itself. We will definitely be returning here.

The Cocos was a great choice as our first Mexican Holiday. We chose this hotel because many friends have gone to Guayabitos for years. Our room in Cocos 2 was small but adequate--clean and cool. My husband said, "What more could we want... a few steps away from the bar, the buffet and the beach!" We could hear the waves on the beach at night!
Staff was all amazing and helpful. Names that stand out are Susie, Carlos, Valentin (who tried very hard to speak and learn English)
We spent some evenings enjoying the local food and entertainment and it was delicious and fun...danced more than we have in along time!!
Fishing guide Marco was good. We caught 3 Mahi Mahi and a mexican tuna--which was thrown back. The kitchen staff at the Cocos cooked our fish and served it to us at our table. It was excellent!
Our boat tour guide was Sanka and we would highly recommend him to all!! He tells funny stories and knows much about the area. We saw many whales and Sanka knew just how to take us in close without chasing them away. We had a once in a lifetime close up experience with male whales courting the females by flapping their fins like sails/ splashing!!
It was incredible!!
Air Transat was an excellent choice for a holiday experience!

Room Tip: Room choice is personal preference. We liked our room on the main floor of Cocos 2 because it was s...

I travelled with Karen P and she summed it up very well as to what a nice place to stay this is! As stated it is a little dated but is lovingly cared for by staff. The rooms were very clean....the beds were comfy.....the pools were pristine....and I can't say enough good about the staff! They are the best staff of any resort (3 star or 5 star) that I have stayed at!

On another note I wanted to add that we were travelling with Transat Vacations....so we flew with Air Transat and they are amazing! I believe we flew in an Airbus 310 and the seats were nice and comfortable....there never seemed to be a line up for the bathrooms.....the meals were amazing especially for airplane food.....and the flight attendants were very helpful.

I am spoiled now after travelling with Transat Vacations and Nolitour (we went with them to Manzanillo in 2011). They really know how to treat a traveller and you sure get your money's worth! Hats off to this wonderful company! I don't think I want to travel with any other companies!

Room Tip: Bldg 1 has an elevator which is good for anyone with mobility issues. It is also one of the closest...

I will start with the positives...clean rooms and friendly staff. Good food and great location. I have been to this resort three times in four years and noticed alot of changes. Paying for the room safe is different than previous years when it was included with the room. Our room had black mold in the closet and was stuffy and musty. As a result, we left with sore throats and a horrible cold that continues to linger. Constant bombardment of noise and beach venders became overwhelming after seven days......average age of 60 so quiet at night after bars closed at 11pm. Some of the travelers we met were unfriendly and seemed to dislike conversation....even after a friendly smile....Disco has same loud, pounding music as three years ago. DJ forgot to upgrade his music. Food was ok, often no butter and desserts were gone quickly. I am sure food is recycled daily but enough choices of fresh fruit, vegetables, breads and choices of entrees to satisfy. Amazing how the same staff still claim they don't understand English!!!! Hello, after some staff have been ,working there for many years, I question this lack of learning. Guess I am a bit jaded, but I would not go back to this resort. The beach is small and dirty and often unswimmable. Liked the beach club beach better. Overall, if you are a senior and want to go to bed at 10pm...go. If you are middle-aged and like a more upbeat atmosphere....don't go. If you are a family and want safety...go.......the town is wonderful and locals friendly.....resort needs an upgrade and rooms need better air quality

Room Tip: Make sure there is no mold

Upon arrival at the resort we were welcomed by an efficient and friendly staff. Although the room we were given was clean and basic it was not what we had anticipated. When we expressed our disappointment we were asked to speak to Marie-Paule. We did the following morning. She was very understanding of our needs and quickly upgraded us to the #4 building which was much larger and quieter with a beautiful view of the ocean. Marie Paule's efficient, handling of the matter basically saved our stay at the Decameron. She took the time to listen, understand and rectify the situation in a timely friendly manner. She also assured us that our stay would be well rewarded with lots to do, great food and entertainment and friendly staff. She was right. The place is kept spotless, the staff are incredible, friendly and professional and the evening entertainment was fabulous. In just a week I felt like family and didn't want to leave.

Room Tip: If you prefer more space, a view of the ocean, and a quieter room ask for building #4

We have stayed in several different places in Ricon thru the years and this is now our favorite. The food in the main dining room was very tasty, a very pleasant surprise. We booked a dinner in the steak house which was a disappointment. Our reservation was for 8:30 which was fine, however, we sat in the bar area watching the near empty restaurant for an hour, they would not let us in earlier. The salad was the same as the dining room, serve yourself salad bar and soup. We ordered wine with dinner(extra, not really worth it) and before it came, the waiter wanted to take our order. We got our starters and again, waited wanted our order. We ordered, food came within 6-7 minutes or so. My steak was fine, tasty and hot, corn soggy and cold. "baked " potato also very cool. The entire dinner experience was not relaxing at all. I will stick with the buffett in the future. The staff was excellent. All the wait staff and bartenders served with a smile, a joke or a few words, very happy and helpful. Our room was in Cocos #4 which is reserved for adults only. This was fine except there were about 50 steps leaving up to the building. Once there there are extra stairs to climb if you are not on the ground floor. We had a car so our luggage was not an issue, we could drive up the hill and park. The first room we were given was on the ground floor but looked out on the bar, pople were seated about 10 feet away from our balcony, If we left the curtain open, no privacy, with patio door open, smoke wafted in. With curtain closed, no light. So, after a bit of a wait(desk attendent said there were no more rooms avaiable on that floor) we sought out the manager who gave us a room(I would think it was an upgrade) as it was on the 3rd floor and had a lovely view of the bay, overlooked the pool and garden area. Nice. The rooms are very clean but basic. No shampoo, hair dryer, tissues. Having stayed in many Mexican hotels we were very pleased with the beds which were comfortable, not hard as many are. There was no wifi in the hotel at all but 4 computers for guest use for a fee.The town itself is small, not much night life and with no outstanding restaurants so we enjoyed our stay at the Decameron very much. There were lots of people staying there so we enjoyed tallking to the other guests. All in all, a nice surprise for a relatively inexpensive allinclusive in one of our favorite small towns in Mexico.

Room Tip: Rooms in Cocos #4 are a ways away from the ocean ,most bars and the buffet. There are steps up , no...

Recently stayed at Decameron Los Cocos. It is very clean, great staff, good food. The rooms are basic, very clean and comfortable. We found the pools a little too cold to be comfortable but the ocean is right there! Swam every day. Lots of beach vendors, if you smile and say no thank you they are very polite and wish you a good holiday. The town is friendly, safe and fun to explore. Two massages for $45.00 and they were excellent. Ate shrimp and fish sold on the beach with no ill effects and they were delicious. We tipped all our staff and room cleaners. They did a great job and were genuinely kind. Please remember their income and a small tip from you makes a big difference for them. Went on a whale watching tour arranged on the beach. $20.00 per person and saw at least ten whales and dolphins. Everyone was honest and easy to deal with. The beach club is wonderful. You reserve a day ahead at the front desk and are picked up at 9:30 till 4:00 or can take a cab back earlier. Lovely beach, restaurant and bar, it was heaven. If you have mobility issues stay out of Los Cocos 4, many steps. It is quiet, set back and has an adult only pool, serves drinks and has a restaraunt there for breakfast. Were lucky enough to get two a la carte reservations at La Bamba, didn't stand in line at 7. Just went and asked if anything was open later in the morning. Both times they had an 8:30 time open. Later as the hotel filled you had to stand in line. The steak was great and service good. Just as enjoyable was the buffet. Lots of variety, great salsa and soups, fresh fruit, This holiday was a very good value and be assured the hotel will do its best to take care of you. One small annoyance, hated paying for a safe in room, $27.00 a week. Would rather it built into price. This place is quiet and fun, party people would probably be disappointed. Lots of older people and familes. The Mexican children are so well behaved and their parents dote on them, did not see any screaming tantrums. Just happy children.
Last point, please tip and buy, it helps the economy and they are so nice and honest.
