Decameron Los Cocos
Reviewed 14 May 2014

We usually go to the Royal Decameron but decided to try this smaller property this year. We spent two weeks in April and thoroughly enjoyed our stay even if the second week was semana santa. Wow! What a party! We've never seen so many people on the beach and in the town! But we really enjoyed being immersed in the Mexican culture and we really enjoyed this resort. As has been said so many times, the property is spotless and the staff so friendly and helpful. The evening entertainment was great and we recommend enjoying it every evening. We went to San Blas with Salvador and that was a 10 hour trip filled with wonderful lessons on history, agriculture, reptiles, birds........we even saw Salvador rescue a chick even if he did fall in crocodile infested water. If you want to eat off the resort go up to Vista Guaybitos. Also be sure to go down the beach at 7am to see the fishermen bring in their catch. We'll be back.

Room Tip: we stayed in block 4 and although you get a good workout on the stairs, it's quiet and offers a...

We stayed at this hotel in Febuary, it was one of our best vacations. The staff was very friendly, clean rooms, great food, we would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice relaxing vacation. Banana Mamas were my favorite drink...Does anyone know whats in this drink?? So yummy...

My husband I went on our first Mexican Vacation in March 2014. We spent hours and hours trying to decide on a resort to stay with. We finally decided on the Hotel Decameron because of all of the great reviews.

We arrived at night and we were a little bit nervous about our decision, but by the time we were lounging by the Adults pool the next afternoon with a book and a daquairi, we were happy with our decision.

Pools are great. Towel service is wonderful and handy. There are always fresh/dry towels available.

Meals were very nice. Nothing over the top fancy, but always delicious. The omelet lady needs an award for her talents.

A La Carte dinners were nice, but the highlight of those dinners (for me) was the Azteca soup. A La Cartes are available every night, and you could go every night if you wanted to. No limits.

The staff are all very friendly and courteous.

The beach is beautiful, busy with Vendors, but they were very respectful of our space. Look for Iban - He made the cutest bracelets for our boys. He approached me on our first day, and I asked him to look for me in a few days. He waited 2 days, found me, remembered my name, and I was sold! He sat right down with us, talked about where we were from, asked about our kids, and let me take pictures of him making the bracelets,

Alicias Tours has the most AMAZING day trips. She is located down the beach (left of the resort) next to the building with the big 21 on top.The Jungle Tour in San Blas was probably the highlight of our trip. It's a long drive to get there, but 100% worth it. Prices are very reasonable, and all of the tours that we went on included a very friendly and knowledgeable guide, lunch, and a cooler of drinks for the day.

Rooms were very nice. Clean, not fancy, but very cool and comfortable. Bring Shampoo and Conditioner. Those are not included.

The Market in Los Cocos on Monday was great, and the Market in La Pinita on Thursdays was bigger, but many of the same items and vendors attend both Markets. Check out the fingernail paintings on tile. We bought a couple on Monday, and 4 more on Thursday. :)

Thursdays Market had a guy making fresh Churros. WAY cheaper than the Churros at Disney, and 10X tastier!

Decameron shows were fun. I missed the comedy night, but I heard it was a blast. The 'All countries' dancing show was something that I wouldn't go to again. We got pulled up on stage for the Couples Dating show though and it was a lot of fun, and we won ourselves a bottle of tequila.

Room Tip: We stayed in Cocos 2. We were very happy with the location. Fairly quiet, pool right downstairs, bar...

Where to begin? It's a relatively small hotel (for PV standards, anyway), but you still get whatever one requires for a great stay. Yes, it has been stated many times, that it is a very clean place - it's actually cleaner! Seriously, while the rooms and bathrooms are relatively basic (after all, it's a 3 star hotel), the place is spotless! Sure, no shampoo and Kleenex box in the bathroom, but that's not expected in 3 star. Who cares? Want hot water in the shower? You bet, the hot water is hot and plentiful any time of day. Food? Want 5 different restaurants to choose from? You're out of luck. Happy enough with a restaurant with super friendly staff (all the hotel staff are really friendly) and good food with a nice variety? This is the place. Here's something you won't get a most 5 star Deluxe hotels: the view from the restaurant; not close to the beach, but right at the beach. Absolutely incredible view!!
Anything negative? Yes, unless you enjoy bum-bum-bom music. The DJ in the disco IMHO was useless with the choice of music. How about some theme nights where everyone (not only the house, hip-hop kind of people) would enjoy the sounds? Oh well, can't have it all.
Would I go again? In a heartbeat. totally recommended!

Room Tip: We were in Block 1, which is fine; noise levels were no bad. There seem to be some kind of terrace r...

We had a vacation in Miami and Cruise in February and came home to cold Manitoba, the vacation was okay but we needed to get out the very cold winter, so found this trip to DeCameron Los CoCos early March for a week, it was affordable and worth every penny, I loved the resort, loved the staff, met alot of guests who were very pleasant to be around, the best part is the area, very safe, weather was great, beautiful beach.

We loved it so much we booked a rental for next year in guayabitos for an extended period, I am really looking forward to returning to this little paradise,

This was our first trip to the pacific side of Mexico and it didn't disappoint! Such a fantastic cultural experience. Much better than there fenced off compounds that exist around Mexico. Los Cocos is a solid 3.5 star resort with a 5 star staff. The service was second to none and the resort was always spotlessly clean. The food was great, but given it's location in the heart of Guayabitos, it was fun to go into down and try some of the local restaurants. The town has lovely, friendly people. When you are there you must try Wanda's for the best burgers and ribs around!

The beach was fantastic with access to a more exclusive beach club in the small town of Los Ayala which is literally a 5 minute bus ride. The beach club offers a private beach with restaurant, bar and pool. A must see and try!

We also highly recommend taking a trip into La Penita which is about a $3 dollar cab ride. Every thursday, they host a fantastic flea market with all sorts of clothing and arts and crafts. While in La Penita, you must also stop in and visit Hanaca Maya, it's an amazing and authentic Mexican folk art store that was actually started by a Canadian that now lives in the town. It's located at 48 Emiliano Zapata Avenue which is only steps from the Main Street and the thursday market.

We can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: The rooms in Cocos 4 are a bit bigger but closer to the street and disco. We didn't mind the hum...

My husband and I are looking back on a vacation totally different then our other resort vacations! In the big resorts, mayan riviera, it's all Canadian but here it's all Mexican! So much fun ! The food was excellent, salad bar, breads, and don't forget the desserts . Mexican evening is a must do. The staff is friendly, hardworking and smiling, rooms are very clean!
We walked every evening in town and seeing all the families with babies and grandma's and grandpa's sitting in their little shops, watching tv and trying to sell whatever they have in the store.
You can walk along the beach for miles where fisherman selling fish to locals and the pellicans are waiting for their snacks. If you are looking for a fancy resort, this is not the one, but if you are looking for a resort with good food, clean rooms, a beach at your doorsteps and a family vibe this is it! One thing you have to get use to is that if you're at the beach that there are a lot of streetvendors trying to sell their stuff but they are friendly and just buy some because you help them out to making a living! They leave you alone, just say no !

Room Tip: If you have been assigned a room close some generator or airco unit don't hesitate to request a...
