“a great hotel! excellent.”
Reviewed 3 February 2010

I'm not sure what the negative reviews are talking about. My husband and 6 month old son stayed there and had a great experience. The hotel is modern, clean, has great views (and of course they have lights and tv's - contrary to a previous review). The hotel even provided a "pack n play" for my baby to sleep in. We had a large, beautiful, modern room with an adjoining separate bedroom. There was a plasma tv in every room (both bedrooms and the living room too.) It was very clean and had a great kitchen with a full size fridge and dishwasher. We even had a washer and dryer in our foyer! Most hotels charge an arm and a leg for laundry service but here we could do our own laundry for free! Another added bonus is how soundproof the rooms are. My husband is a very light sleeper and had no trouble sleeping in our room.
The pool has some very cool lounge beds that are covered from the sun and the water was so warm! Sole is a nice sized boutique hotel... unlike most of the other large & impersonal hotels on the beach. It would make a great wedding location because your guests would be able to stay in one location on the beach. I loved the hotel and am baffled by the couple of negative reviews out there.

We stayed at the Solé between December 27 and January 2. From the time we arrived, we were disappointed. No one has yet mentioned how awkward the entrance is. The whole time we stayed there, a truck was parked at the street exit/entrance of the parking pumping water out of the building. We always had to wait for the valet as the lone poor guy was running like crazy to get your car. The whole car driveway was blocked most of the time because you cannot double park as it is too narrow. The building was put up on a narrow strip of land and the signage to the hotel is hardly visible - only when you are right there do you see the rather smallish sign.
Once we got to our room, we realized that there was hardly any lighting in the bathroom. There is no way you can shave properly or do your make-up in there as it's a windowless room and somehow the side lights were missing. Also the only phone was on the floor. There was no table for it. There was only one bulky TV in the living room, none in the bedroom. The lever of the kitchen sink faucet fell off and could not be screwed back on.
The whole building is very shoddy, built to be imploded in 20 years!
Also, the carpet tiles in the corridors had gaps in certain places and were very dirty. The corridors were never vacuumed once during our 5-day stay. The carpet tiles are dark brown and so you could see all the dirt and the sand. We were not tempted to go to the pool and pay $10 as we had been warned by our friends. We have been told that the building has no money and that many of the present problems stem from that reason: lack of cleaning, not enough valet parking attendants, etc.

After all the bad reviews I was really nervous. Got in around midnight on 1/14 and checked out on 1/17.

Room - King ocean view. Room was on the north side of building. I suspect the suites are on the end of the building facing the ocean. Our room had a nice balcony where you could look right and see the ocean or look left and see the city. Since 1 wall was entirely sliding door/window, there wasn't a problem with lights. There was a bedside lamp on each side of the bed along with an entry ceiling can light and closet light anyway. The room was small but we weren't planning on spending much time there so we didn't need much space. There was a large closet so we were able to store our clothes out of the way. The bathroom was big with a waterfall shower head. When we got there, the toilet wouldn't flush. It was just that the chain was broken in the tank so we were able to "manually" flush it until they got it fixed. Bed was very comfortable but the pillows had to have been down filled or something just as un-supportive. It wasn't a huge deal. We just rolled them up and combined them with the decorative pillows. Room was very clean. Missing water glasses but had coffee maker and free coffee. No furniture to use on the balcony. Had to ask for an iron and hair dryer.

Service - It was apparent that they had been waiting for us to check in because we came back down to walk to the beach and everyone had disappeared. The broken toilet chain fixed very quickly after we told them the next morning and then someone came and made sure everything was ok later that day. They delivered the iron and hair dryer without any problem. The front desk person was polite but they weren't gushing friendliness. They were business-like. The cleaning staff was very nice, thorough, and friendly. The valet was great.

Area - Everything you could need is within easy walking distance including a Payless shoe store which came in handy when both of our sandals broke! There is a great bakery and cafe called Epicure where we grabbed breakfast every morning. We bought a towel from Walgreens (approx 1/2 block away) and used that on the beach. The heated pool is kind of small but it was never crowded while we were there and there were lounge chairs and a small bar around it. (maybe they learned from previous reviews?) There is a nice steakhouse about 2 blocks away called The Porterhouse. There are a couple decent sized parks within the block that made me consider coming back with my daughter one day. As a tourist, I didn't mind it taking 30-40 minutes to get to South Beach. It was a beautiful drive. The hotel is on the beach which is perfect. You do have to go out through the garage but all that involves is pressing P2 in the elevator and walking across 15 feet of garage to the exterior doors. Not a big deal.

Overall - We got a great $99 deal through Bookit.com so the price was perfect. It is only valet parking. I'm not sure where you would park if you didn't do valet. $15 for overnight which is pretty good as the few places I've been have charged $30-$40! I didn't see any construction type stuff going on although I'd read they were remodeling. I know the fixtures and furniture in our room were very modern and trendy. It just seems they needed or still need a good project manager to make sure the details are taken care of: same amenities in all rooms (iron, hair dryer, drinking glasses), floor carpet tiles are placed properly so there aren't gaps in the seams, including a hotel services book in each room (they had area guides but nothing about the hotel itself).

This was not a high end hotel. It has the potential but the details have been missed. It suited our needs and I would stay there again.

booked a week in a 2 bedroom condo. when we got there it was a 1 bedroom suite with a bedroom next door. we wasn't told about the $15 a day valet parking fee they charge. you CAN NOT park your own car. plus there are only tables and chairs plus 3 basket chairs round the pool. they put ALL there sun loungers on the beach and charge you $10 a day each for them. if your going go to the local wal-mart or walgreens and buy a chair for less than $20. plus if you want an umbrella they are extra so buy one of them as well and if you keep it nice and don't take the label of you can take it back at the end of the week and get a refund. it was clean and modern in the suites. it only had a microwave size oven which was useless. the kitchen was realy small and the table and chairs were stuck in the way. the pool is small. i was told we would have an ocean front but we were given one round the back with ocean view instead. plus if you want to go fishing THERE IS NO FISHING OF THE BEACH ANYWHERE ALONG THIS BIT OF COAST OF THE INLAND WATER WAYS.
so a total waste of money going there. would not recommend the sole to anyone.

We stayed at Sole on the Ocean Dec 13, 2009 and was very disappointed. This is simply not a hotel and slowly in the processes of converting existing condos into hotel rooms. Rooms are very small for a king suite and lacking in basic room necessities. No chair, no garbage can, no drinking glasses, no ice bucket, and very poor lighting in bathroom. We were travelling with another couple who had booked the same room and their room lacked all of the above including a phone!! When we complained at front desk they told us to check out and would not be refunded because we had booked thru bookit.com. Of course no manager available until next morning. There were no hotel amenties at all.. no vending/ice machines, no dining/eating area,no fitness center and no bar. The lounge is simply a front desk and sofa. Waited for the manager the next morning but he did not show. Left my business card and asked that he email me but of course no response as of it. This hotel is a good 25 min drive from South Beach and technically located at the top northend of the area called Sunny Isles. I agree.. the website looks great but certainly should not be described as a hotel..yet.

Took a chance with this hotel based only on reviews and web pictures. We stayed for two days prior to a cruise. We had a 16th floor room that had a ocean (to the left) and city (to the right) view. Bedroom with a comfortable king bed. Modern decor and furnishings. Bizarre, but there was no TV in the living area. At check in they offered to leave it in the bedroom or put it in the living area. Kitchen was nice, although if you really wanted to cook something, there were no pots, pans, etc. Area was ok. Not a lot to do if you don't have a car. A few things within walking distance. Dwayne, the front desk person was very helpful. The beach was absolutely georgeous. We had to rent beach chairs and an umbrella. Would have been a nice touch if that were included. Best part may have been the all in one washer and dryer unit in the room. That was very helpful to us. Overall very good stay. Would return.

Reviewed 9 December 2009

Just got back from our trip to Miami this past weekend. Miami is always fun, the trip would have been great if it wasn't for the hotel. The website is totally deceiving. The lobby has got to be the most deserted lobby i've ever seen. The picture you see on the web site (the sofa lounge chair) is the only thing in the lobby. There's nothing else beside the section for them to check you in. There's barely anyone there, you usually have to wait for them to come out and help you.
The room is extremely small, one of our bathroom lights was broken. The room and bathroom are very poorly lit. It's impossible to do your makeup there.
The staff was not helpful at all. We called to the front desk to ask for the channel to see Monday night football, the response was " i don't know".
They have a tiny, tiny pool and exactly 3 cabanna like section in the pool area.
Some good things about the hotel:
-Great valet staff, very helpful and friendly
-Beds are very comfortable, you'd sleep like a baby
-Heated pool
-Lovely beach

Overall, the hotel was overprice for what its offering and its location ($150 nightly). Do not stay there.
