Ramada Plaza Marco Polo Beach Resort
Ranked #7 of 10 Hotels in Sunny Isles Beach
Reviewed 25 August 2011

This hotel is a bit older than the other hotels that are in the area, the entrance isn't as glamorous as some of the nearby hotels but the foyer is very nice with VERY comfortable couches and the ceiling art is quite beautiful!

However, I find it frustrating that check-in is at 4pm and that within a period of 2.5hrs a room cannot be cleaned to accommodate arriving guests. This made for a very frustrating arrival at the hotel on the first day. Thankfully the room was nice, clean and the beds were comfortable when we finally were given our room.

The location of the hotel is perfect, right on the beach and easy access to Aventura Mall, local stores, easy access to local transit straight to Surfside and South Beach area. The hotel has gym access which was empty on the day we decided to go, it's a bit small but it shouldn't be an issue when your on a beach vacation! The pool was good and poolside bar & grill had delicious wraps & sandwiches.

The room we had was nice, large queen size beds, flat screen tv, kitchenette, air conditioning and clean bathroom. Nice balcony area, although our view was not directly facing the beach, it was nice all the same! Unfortunately the housekeeping service wasn't as good, they only came by twice in the 6days, 5nights we were there. Since it is an older hotel the pipe system is quite loud and woke us up every morning. It was louder than if we were taking a shower in our own room. No need for wake-up calls in this case!
The concierge gentleman wasn't as helpful as we hoped and gave us the wrong information for the shuttle service to the mall...it made for an unpleasant experience waiting in the heat but we eventually took local transit. I suggest taking local transit everywhere instead of taking taxis or even relying on the shuttle service. Transit is only $2 and is easy to get to all major locations as long as you plan ahead. The housemen in green shirts were very nice and greeted us with genuine interest in our day's excursions.
The complimentary breakfast, which isn't complimentary ($10 for each day at the hotel whether you attend or not is charged at the end of stay) wasn't as good as we hoped. We planned on filling ourselves on breakfast so that we wouldn't have to spend too much on meals out. I suggest going before 9am to avoid the large groups of families. We only ended up going for breakfast twice during our stay because the food options weren't very good.

The pizzeria restaurant downstairs is an awesome alternative! the pizza that is made to order is delicious and cheesy! Perfect for those nights you don't feel like finding a restaurant. The staff is friendly and the menu is great! If we could have at pizza or pasta every night we would have just eaten there the whole trip!

My suggestion is to keep a close eye on your final bill upon check-out, they will try to charge you valet parking even if you don't have a car.
Overall, the hotel was as expected after reading all the reviews beforehand. We knew what we were getting into and the price was right. If you are coming to Miami to enjoy the beach, enjoy a few attractions and don't plan to spend too much time at the hotel then this is perfect. If you are expecting to stay at the hotel and not venture too far, then maybe a more expensive and more modern or updated hotel will be better, but we found that it fulfilled our needs. Somewhere to rest and relax after being out all day.

Thank you for leaving a comment on your recent stay at our oceanfront resort located in upscale Sunny Isles.

Our check in time of 4 p.m. is published on the website, and is comparable with properties in the Miami Beach area. A bus stop is conveniently located at the front of the resort; there is a regular schedule for the free community shuttle and local transit to local shops and cafes along Collins Avenue.

We are pleased to read that you were satisfied with your assigned room which was clean, comfortable and had a good view of the ocean. Also, we are happy that you enjoyed our Olympic sized swimming pool and that our bell staff was friendly and attentive to our needs. We apologize for your having received inaccurate information regarding the shuttle to the mall.

The Director of Housekeeping held a meeting recently to address the delivery of customer service and quality assurance to our guests. Our resort offers daily Housekeeping service; we wished that you had alerted a member of management for an immediate address.

Our guests’ comfort is important to us. We value your comments which help in our daily decision making process and hope to host you on your next visit to Miami.

The staff was not very friendly and very rude and not so helpfull. The housekeepper actually complained that we left the bathroom floor too wet and that she almost fell...we have 3 kids in the room...hello? Anyway, isn't that what she's suppose to do....clean up the place? The place was dirty and needs a whole makeover, the airconditioning didn't work very well either. They were always out of towels too! No activities for the kids either. Never again!

We appreciate your taking the time to leave a review on your most recent stay at our resort.
It is disappointing to read that your stay was not as memorable as you would have liked. After reviewing your comments our Director of Housekeeping immediately responded with a departmental meeting which covered the team’s commitment to customer service, daily assignments as well as the supply of towels in the room.

We have several activities for the kids which include ping pong, hoops, a shuffle board, as well as water related gadgets. Nevertheless, we are currently reviewing our offerings for expansion and better visibility to the guest. We wished you had spoken to a member of management while you were on property for an immediate address of any issue.

Thank you for leaving your feedback; our management team utilizes these suggestions as a vehicle for enhancing our product offering.

This hotel is not worth the money!! Supposed to have a newly updated room-the room had a lot of problems, even to the missing smoke detector (which was just hanging there). The room was dirty with food crumbs all over and was there after a week of being there. Was blood stains on the pillows, which were never changed the whole week we were there. You are only allotted 1 beach towel per person for the day!! Customer Service was very poor in helping. The only good thing about the place was the beach!! Seriously not worth the money spent, go elsewhere for better quality and service!! The wireless also did not work so there was no way to keep contact with the family at home

Room Tip: check your beds and your drawers

It is unfortunate to read that your visit to our resort fell short of your expectation.

Our Director of Housing has reviewed your notes and as a follow up held a meeting with the staff to review our commitment to quality assurance based on the disorderly condition in which you found the room. Our wireless internet service has experienced sporadic disruptions this may have been caused by someone capitalizing on bandwidth, once reported this situation is addressed. Our Engineering department was briefed on the hanging smoke detector you found in the room and made the necessary repairs.

Also, our Rooms Division Manager was informed of the poor customer service you received and has since refreshed the team on our commitment to excellent customer service.

Every guest’s experience is very important to us; please be assured that we value your feedback and we hope you appreciate the attention paid to your concerns.

This hotel is ripe with history and reminds me of Florida when I was kid. The hotel is fairly old and is evident in the architecture. They are doing some remodeling but you feel that you really do step back in time while there. A refreshing change of pace, and Leo, the head Concierge is authentically pleased to take care of his guests, and he knows of some very good restaurants. Very reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Ask for a newley remolded one

Stayed at the property for a family reunion. Reserved a ocean view, non-smoking room with two queen size beds traveling with a pet. We were told there would be a $100 pet depoist.

Upon arrival we were told there was only one room available and it only had a single king. I explained to Maria the desk clerk that I was traveling with a child who has cancer, and has special need. Maria's only alternative was to give us a free roll away.

Then we were told that only $50 of the pet depoist was refundable.

On top of that when we got to the room it was sweltering hot. Assumed/hoped after running the A/C on high it would cool off. The next morning I complained to the desk. I was told the unit was working properly, and it was just the Florida heat and humidity, but she would send someone to check it.

Returned to the room later that evening to find it still sweltering hot, and the custom pillows we brought from home for our daughter had been taken and replaced with hotel pillows

Not happy at all

Thank you for leaving a comment on your recent stay at our resort. Our oceanfront family and pet friendly resort is very popular for hosting all types of social functions.

Demand on the weekends is typically high and our team works effortlessly in accommodating each guest’s floor and bedding request. Nonetheless, management is collectively disappointed that your customer service encounter was not as ideal as we would have all liked.

Our resort’s pet policy requires a deposit of $100; $50 is refunded to the guest upon checkout. Guests are encouraged to keep all doors closed to maintain a comfortable temperature, sometimes guests leave the doors open causing the cooling system to be strained for the next arriving guest. We do apologize that your custom pillows were taken inadvertently.

Every guest’s comfort is important to us; we value your feedback and hope you appreciate the attention paid to your comments.

This was a very dilapidated and outdated hotel. There also are many hidden charges, such as the $15/day parking fee and $10/day "resort fee." The gym is very antiquated with old equipment that is subpar for a decent workout. The continental breakfast comprised of very unappealing food of low quality. Make sure you don't leave anything in your car before it is valeted. Money and items were stolen out of my car.
The room did not have a shower curtain and the towels and toilet were not clean. Even in a non-smoking floor I could smell smoke.

Room Tip: Tell them you don't want a room that animals have stayed in.

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on your recent visit to our family and pet friendly resort. We are disappointed to read that your stay did not meet your expectations.

Our resort was built in 1967 and has since been upgraded. You will be pleased to know that over 50% of our rooms have been updated over the last two years and we are currently undergoing additional renovation to the rooms. Our resort fee is published on the web and you may have overlooked this.

Over 300 guests are served each morning for breakfast from 6:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Our upgraded continental breakfast includes items such as hot fresh scrambled eggs, fresh fruits, hot oatmeal, muffins etc which is appeasing to most of our guests. The valet manager was provided with a copy of your complaint and currently the team is investigating the allegations of items missing from your vehicle.

Our Director of Housekeeping held a meeting with the staff to review our commitment to quality assurance based on your impressions of the room. Every guest’s experience is very important to us; please be assured that we value your feedback and we hope you appreciate the attention paid to your concerns.
