“Delicious and great value!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2013

After hearing about Durban Dish for a number of years I finally made the journey from the eastern suburbs earlier this year. I've been back 3 times since and each visit has been excellent! The food is delicious, the service is great and the value for money is unbeatable. I highly recommend a visit for those who appreciate good food.

“A simple restaurant with flavoursome food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2013 via mobile

This is a South African restaurnt with Indian style home cooked hearty meals. Go for the bunny chow, and the pap and wor with chakalaka, which is spicy but very tasty.

Because the tables are limited, one should make a booking if visiting on weekends.

We have eaten here more than once, and will visit again.

“Authentic Food from 'Rorkes Drift' country”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 September 2012

This tiny 'hole in the wall' eatery on a busy road, reminds me for some reason of similar German eateries offering a small range of great produce...save the sausage at Durban Dish is Boerewors, that Prince of farmers' sausage made with beef and pork seasoned with coriander, sometimes cloves and nutmeg, in a gut casing.

DD is run by a mother and daughter and run consistently. The basics are done well and flim-flam is avoided. Don't expect fine dining. Do expect honest, simple, tasty ethnic food made with simple ingredients and prepared as if at home. Parking is best made over the road in the small off-street carpark behind the strip shops. A pedestrian crossing outside the DD makes for safe passage.

Over a few visits or even on one gluttonish visit with a party of four...it's possible to savour the entire menu if you wish. Dishes to try are for us the signature Bunny Chow, Vetkoek, Chakalaka and Chilli Bites. Expect a cut of of working class Afican diet...high starch and fats coupled with unusual textures, flavour combinations and unfamiliar dishes, served in a kind of four star B&B atmosphere with the proprietor prepared to chat. One for a cold rainy night and a few bottles of BYO wine and beer. You may have it to yourself and be spoiled by the family.

“A hidden gem. Indian / South African favourites tucked away in a shopping strip on Old Northern Rd”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2012 via mobile

I've been eating here for 4 years.
The restaurant is only small so bookings are strongly advised.

The food is always good. I've taken several South African emigres here over the years & they've all loved the authentic experience.

The owner is friendly & there are many pantry favourites on sale (chutney, drinks, sauces etc)
