There is something mysterious and adventurous in venturing into the Shire. an invitation by a writer chum to catch up post his sojourn in Italy, served the purpose for grazing at this "by the sea" eatery.
A decent arm could hurl a cricket ball into the shore break of Cronulla Beach. Given the name ,we immediately assumed this establishment was lifted from Tuscany or Umbria and planted down by the Shire shore........ At the onset lets get this straight..... there are no meat balls in tomato sauce here!!
We follow the ethos of "if you cant see the ocean, don't order seafood" and with salt in the air,we felt in safe territory. Choosing was pleasant. A char-grilled lamb back strap on a parsely puree with broccolini & salsa verde. My femme chose the warm Med salad. I don't know what the translation for 'ooh-la-la"is in Italian but both dishes were superb, finished off with gelato shared.
All we needed were the hammocks swaying in the gentle breeze. By the way we loved the veggies piled on the femme's plate. Forget elaborate decor, the ambience is understated and without pretence making the honesty of the food and service complementary. It really is all about the food, stupid. I love that maxim, don't you?
