“Not Good”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2014

We have stayed here once before and had a good room for the money as it a 3 star hotel. This time, shocking and for the same money we received a tiny room with ripped wall paper, dirty shower, paper thin towels, and terrible service from reception. The lady on reception is rude and should retire as she is definitely not a front office person. She was rude last time but we ignored this as perhaps she was having a bad day. Also, it appears they try to get whatever price they can on a room which was evident this time round. Lucky the new hotel is opening in Double Bay soon as we visit here every 3 months and will be staying there from now on.

The Savoy is not grand as the name may imply
This hotel tucked into the centre of Double Bays shops and restaurants is all about location and value for money.
It has almost a country guest house feel
Do not expect sea views, room service, double glazed windows or fluffy robes.
You will get friendly staff, a temperamental lift and a room within a skip of every amenity imaginable--Pizza, fish and chips or fine dinning, competitively priced hairdressers and beauty spas, super market, quick as a flash dry cleaners, jewellery and SHOE SHOPS, florists with Blue Bells and a village buzz
"THE RETREAT SUITE" shares a balcony with the room next door. Access to the next door room is via your "private" area. This would be ideal for a family or like minded chums.
The retreat is large, open plan, has a tiny kitchen, a large bathroom, plenty of storage space, a great shower & plenty of hot water.
The Savoy is a reasonable taxi fare to many areas. It is on a bus line that services the eastern and city areas. A hike up the hill to Edgecliff Station or a short stroll to the ferry.
I would recommend this spot as a secret part of Sydney

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper take ear plugs

Have stayed there on numerous occasions - each time in a different standard room. Each time I have been very happy with the facilities provided. Clean rooms, good bathrooms and a quiet space. The proximity to shops, restaurants, transport and nightlife is fantastic - it is a real value for money.

Room Tip: The rooms with balconies are worth the extra but the atrium rooms are good value.

This Hotel is very conveniently located. The room had little natural light with big windows and a glass door opening onto a hallway over an atrium style area. Which meant you had to have the curtains shut all the time or you felt like a goldfish in a bowl. Parking not available. We parked in the street but had to move the car a couple of times. Overnight parking was OK but had to get up early to move it. Lots of shops nearby.

having booked this Hotel because of its location to our family rather than its features we were pleasantly surprised at how good it was compared to other hotels that charge double what we paid. The room was a large, tastefully furnished and of a high standard. Good air con. Great area, short stroll to the water and ferries.Surrounded by good restaurants and public transport.

Just returned from our second visit to this hotel, standards have certainly dropped since our previous visit. Fortunately we were allocated a room which had been refurbished, not all had. Some public areas i . e. breakfast dining area were very basic to say the least, but have got to say staff very pleasant and helpfull and location is brilliant. Great selection of eataries close at hand and good transport links into the city

With some apprehension, based on reviews and the relatively low price ($125) I stayed at the Savoy for one night. The hotel ticked all the boxes. It was clean, quiet and a great location. The bathroom was surprisingly large as well.

To other reviewers a price this low will not get you a 5 Star hotel, so you adjust expectations. Given Double Bay is one of the more expensive parts of Sydney, the hotel was great value. I would definitely stay again and recommend this place to others
