“Unique venue”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

If you're looking for something with the hallmarks of a 4+ star hotel but with the feel of a boutique venue, an iconic location and a unique history, you couldn't go past Q Station. It's tranquil, has outstanding views, and has decent food on site; the service is excellent and everything has a subtle quality feel to it.

Q Station is a truly unique hotel. We stayed here for a weekend and I found the whole setting and history of the place really fascinating. There is so much to see and do! Accommodation is provided in the restored buildings of the old North Head Quarantine Station and spread over quite a large area - the whole complex is almost the size of a small town. There is also a museum, an interesting historic wharf area and one of the prettiest beaches on Sydney Harbour.
Our deluxe room was very comfortable and had a small adjoining sitting room and ensuite bathroom. There were tea and coffee making facilities in our room but we also had access to the nearby guest lounge which had a coffee machine, newspapers and fantastic views of the Manly ferry sailing past!
We stayed during winter and found our room to be quite warm and cosy, but the rooms aren't air conditioned so might be a bit too warm during hot weather, so I'd probably avoid staying during the height of summer.
As mentioned by other reviewers, cars aren't permitted on site and transport is provided by a mini bus doing a continuous loop of the grounds. This system actually works quite well and we never had to wait more than a few minutes for a bus. The drivers are very helpful and knowledgeable and one even gave us an impromptu extended tour and commentary of the grounds. All the staff were actually very friendly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them.
The buffet breakfast was very generous and there was lots of variety. The only problem I noticed was that there seemed to be a problem keeping the hot food, hot. Otherwise, the food was delicious.

I stayed here this weekend just gone.
Reception staff really let the place down - rude, un-cooperative and not in any way helpful.
I previously stayed a few years ago when first became an Accor hotel, was poor then however after a few years i would have hoped they would have improved. Unfortunately it would appear they did not!
Bus drivers, speeding through the site, one of the people in our group almost went through the window due to the driver slamming on brakes, the 15km limit just ignored, then they expect us to transport a baby unrestrained in their bus - no way.
Jasmine in reception a lot to be desired. Performance, attitude and professional manner, 0 out of 10.
Will NEVER stay here again. nor recommend the location to anyone.

Stayed here for 1 night. We live in the area and can honestly say we have never been before. Its much large than I envisaged. Lovely place to walk around and of course the interesting history was very well documented and views over the harbour were great. The little bus that does the loop was always around so no problem at night getting around!. We ate at the Restaurant food was excellent and well presented. Breakfast was included and was also good value. Our heritage room had an adjoining bathroom but lovely white bathrobes and slippers were in our room so no problem on a cool morning! The facilities were very good little touches like water and biscuits in the fridge added to our enjoyable weekend. Will certainly visit again.

Room Tip: We were in the heritage rooms but had a good view over the harbour up on the hillside!

The Q Station is a wonderfully quiet motel, staying in historic accomodation. Well appointed rooms, friendly helpful staff and great food.

We stayed overnight to attend the Paranormal Investigator tour run by Anne & Rob from Eastern States Paranormal. It was a fantastic experience not only due to the hands on paranormal research we conducted, but by Anne and Robs extensive knowledge of the history of the Q Station. All round a great experience.

Stayed here for 1 night and loved it. It's not just a place to sleep, it is a part of Sydney's history, and there are many points of interest to explore around the property. There are tours you can take, including ghost tours. The property is situated on North Head, where the views are spectacular.
Our room was small but had all we needed, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the buffet breakfast was fantastic. Would highly recommend this property to anyone wishing to get away from it all, while still being close to Manly.
