“Slightly dated and quite expensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014

Forced layover due to flight cancellation. Spent the previous night at Sydney in a different hotel.
Decor was luxurious but a bit dated. Service was good.
The bed was good - much better than the other hotel.
Unfortunately there appeared to be a party in on of the rooms near mine - men's and women's voices loudly laughing until after 0100 am, and again noisy from 0700.

I didnt bother eating there as the restaurant appeared to be quite expensive.
Thumbs up for the room and bed but down for the noise.

Room Tip: Avoid the second floor!!!!

Dear effbeezw,
Thank you for taking the time in sharing a review of your recent stay with us. I sincerely regret the noise you experienced from the other rooms which iimpacted on your sleep quality. Im pleased however you found the bed comfortable, and encountered good service from our staff. I also advise that we are in the process of many upgrades around the hotel and this will see a marked improvement in our decor. We hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you back in the future.

The hotel is close to the Domestic terminal (about 600 meters walking distance) and there is a shuttle bus every half hour from 6am to both Domestic and International terminals for $6 per head.
The food in the restaurant is very ordinary for the prices charged although there is a bar which sells hamburgers ($24 each) and pizza. The room was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately there was a corporate function on the Saturday evening that we stayed there and as it ended at about midnight the attendees at that (some of whom were clearly worse for imbibing alcohol). They gathered in each others rooms and in corridors from midnight until 4am laughing drinking and it was simply not possible to sleep. A complaint made to reception at 2am did have someone sent up to request them to quieten down but it was of little effect. As we left at 6am there were guests walking around the foyer and farewelling others and holding stubbies of beer. It was pretty disgusting and next time I would enquire as to whether a corporate function was on before I booked there.

Room Tip: A room away from the lift area may be quieter although I suspect the noise we had to tolerate would...

Excellent location for those overnight in-transit travellers wishing to stay close to Sydney Airport. Situated within walking distance of the domestic terminal. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Room big and comfortable but given the room rates you'd expect nothing more. From there things not so good. The 40c per minute internet access or a maximum of $24.95 per day was amazing. This is the 21st century and given the main clientele (in-transit travellers) this should have been complimentary not an opportunity to gouge the customer. The buffet breakfast at $28 per head was expensive given what was provided. Minimal food opportunities once the main restaurant closes and room service was also expensive: $20 for a ham and cheese sandwich. Don't even think about the mini-bar. It seems the main objective of this hotel is to separate their customer from as much ready cash as possible. Frankly given the options available this is a location that really needs to lift its game and realise the real meaning of hospitality.

We stayed one night before flying out of Sydney. The hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful, getting our bags out of the car and suggesting that we return the rental car before checking in as there were a number of other guests at check in. We walked back to the hotel from the Domestic Terminal, about 10 minutes. Check in was very easy and our 6th floor room was spacious and well appointed, overlooking the airport so plenty of action to watch. Very comfortable bed, great shower, and a divine easy chair and ottoman which we competed to use. We dined at the AV8 café and bar, nice pizza and the satay sticks were tasty. Happy Hour wine and beer prices very good. Shuttle to the airport was prompt and reasonable at $6 each.

I stayed at this hotel about 10 nights in 2013 and then recently in July 2013. My most recent stay in room 1007 was very disappointing indeed. Maintenance in this room was far from up-to-scratch. The toilet seat had been replaced by a cheap plastic seat. The electronic do not disturb sign would switch off each time the air-conditioning thermostat turned off... which meant unless you switched off the air conditioning, you could not display do not disturb for the room.

The restaurant was poor indeed. There were two people working the whole of the restaurant and it was far from full. One was the chef doing room service orders and cooking omlettes and fried eggs, the other was the matre de ticking off names at the front door. Nobody attended the tables during the whole of breakfast.

The self-service coffee from a machine tasted suspiciously like instant coffee (disgusting) and the scrambled eggs were powdered eggs full of gelatine. The chef (when asked) tried to avoid the question of whether they were powdered, but eventually conceded when we pushed, saying he didn't have time to cook real scrambled eggs.

This is really poor for a hotel that wants to charge $28 per person for buffet breakfast.

The staff at reception pretended to be surprised when I told them this, but I could hear others at checkout saying pretty much the same thing. The idea is when customers complain discount something small like parking. This seems to be the way this hotel works... instead they should be focused on fixing the problems and delivering something resembling quality for customers.

Recently (instead of returning) I tried the competition - the newly opened Rydges Sydney Airport - and this offered a far better food, better maintained food, and a free shuttle bus (rather than a paid one), to the domestic airport. It is located right at international.

Room Tip: Rooms on the airport side are less noisy, because aircraft engines are louder after they have passed...

When we arrived no once came to help carry our suitcases. We found a trolley ourselves and eventually once we had it loaded and were half way to reception someone came to help. We arrive about 9pm at night and were hoping to have dinner at the restaurant in the hotel but were told the kitchen was closed, so we ordered room service. The staff person delivering our food was abrupt and not friendly at all. The next morning we had to remonstrate with the manager upon checking out to allow us to use the dinner voucher for the room service to which he reluctantly agreed. The room was good, the bed was comfortable and the proximity to the airport was good.

The Hotel generally is great, its everything you would expect, nice large rooms, clean, every whim catered for. I give it average because things on the periphery, are frankly very poor. example the shuttle service from the airport, there is no alternative, its too near for a cab, and too far to walk, but there are only very poor instructions about where they pick up from, there is no real time table, and insufficient capacity when they do turn up, (its not like its Free either)! Then I look forward to a nice hot bath first time in a couple of weeks of travelling, and the water is barely hot enough to wilt a cabbage leaf, so I had a Luke warm shower, unacceptable at £100+ per night. Obviously convenient for an early flight out!

Dear Ikorel,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and sharing your review. I appreciate your valuable feedback as this allows us to review our service and product, maintain or make improvements.

I do advise that the airport shuttle buses are managed by a third-party operator and not controlled by the hotel. We do have available at the Concierge Desk timetables of arrival and departures of the shuttles, together with instructions for pick-up and drop-off points at the terminals.

I do apologise for the inconvenience your encountered in regards to the faulty shower. This has been followed up with our Engineering Department to address accordingly.

Thank you once again and we hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you back when next you visit Sydney.
