Ibis Budget Hotel Sydney Airport

This is a crash pad close to the airport. Should not get two star rating in Western world. Rooms meet minimum standards - barely. They actually resemble jail cells. Access to airport is good but should be used only for one night between flights.

KFC and McDonald's are very close.

Did get info from the GM about going into downtown Sydney. It was wrong

It was not as per the picture we saw on the internet. Do not go here if you want quality and pampering. A good place for if you need to just put your head down for a night and don't plan on spending ANY time in the room. In our room, there was a queen bed - that moved as soon as you put anything on it - so we gave up on moving it back into position after a while and left it until we checked out. The single bed was a bunk bed. Unmade. So we had to make the bed before it could be used, which was a pain when exhausted from flying already. A sheet and blanket and pillow were suppiled for each of the lower and top bunk. We used both sets on one bed, as it was so cold (but we were there in winter). One sheet had a hole in it - and the sheets looked old BUT CLEAN. Towels were supplied, toilet paper and soap. The little shower room (with basin/shower and toilet all squeezed in to a tiny tiny space) was clean. There was a television in the corner also - but seriously didn't want to spend any actual time in the room. We booked the breakfast included option - which was in the dining area (reminded me of a prison visiting room that you see on tv movies!). The breakfast was help yourself to hot drinks from the machine. Make your own toast - little sachets of butter/jam/vegemite/honey supplied. And a selection of cereals. for an extra $9.99 or whatever it was, we agreed we could have gone next door to McDonalds for a more "slap up" breakfast, if we had known it was so close to Formule 1 at the time we booked! So, yes McDonalds was pretty much next door, then a donut place next to that, then KFC next to that. So there were other food options closeby. We did only require the use for one night just because we had to stay overnight to catch another flight. However, if we realised that it was going to be as unflash as it was, we would have definitely looked to stay elsewhere. The two guys at the desk were friendly. They had a lock up area out the back if you had to store your luggage but had checked out. We did not use this service however, but thought it was a good and handy idea anyway. A shuttle service to the airport is available for $12, which was good - as the Formule 1 may be close to the domestic arrivals terminal (walking distance) but the international terminal is NOT walkiing distance. I would not go here for business or for romantic time - or if spending any more than one night with a child. It is cheap and fine for passers through. Well suited for long haul truckies, or backpackers - who are too exhausted to care where they are to sleep. BUT IT WAS CLEAN, and as i said filled the requirements of that one night's stay!!

I chose to stay here with friends as we had booked two rooms to accommodate three adults and three kids, so this was by far the cheapest option. It is very, very basic and I would only recommend if you literally needed to stay briefly and you don't care about luxuries or the usual hotel/motel accessories. We arrived at 6pm in the evening and checked out at 4am the next morning, so suited us as a place just to sleep.

The reverse air conditioning was fine and as it was cold, this worked well. The shower was hot. Despite being on a floor that seemed to have lots of children, I didn't notice the noise when I had the aircon (heating) on. The bed was very comfortable. I was expecting backpacker style and that's what it is. No frills for sure.
