As a couple who do not live in Sydney we have made Doyles on the Beach a regular event over many trips. The ferry trip from Circular Quay was the best thing about our last visit on the weekend.
After having our online reservation confirmed by email we then had to follow up a phone call we received to confirm our reservation? On arrival we were seated at a lovely seat right up the front but somehow between our drinks being served we were left to our own devices for over half an hour before catching the attention of the waitress.
The dozen Oysters Kilpatrick and Mornay we ordered to share arrived luke warm and without the standard small fork and spoon that usually accompanies any oyster dish. The main courses of Signature Jumbo Prawns and Asian Style Scallops also arrived barely warm as did the Snapper and Prawn Pie.
Two guys who were clearly tourists judging by the luggage they had were seated at the table next to us when we arrived and left without taking a second mouthful of either meal they were served.
Far too many other choices are out there now for Doyles to rest on their laurels. We won't be back.

must of been here about 12 times, but not been this year, the last few not fab, beautiful setting, right on the beach, staff always nice. i have been over to watsons bay early some days and cant help thinking it would be a nice place to have coffee in the morning but they dont open until lunch time. although this might of changed, if you can get a table on the front they are the best although some seagulls can be cheeky. the last few times i went it had all changed, bookings were needed and the winter/summer specials had been taken off the menu, these were the best value and made it affordable for all friends or family that stayed and was a really beautiful meal, i think last time me and a girlfriend went we ended up sharing a meal as didnt have enough money left after shopping. this is a shame as we used to go over most months with family or friends, guess it will just be special occasions from now on. food is lovely, all seating is good and staff are nice, taking the ferry over and having lunch is lovely, dont miss the last ferry back!!

I believe that's the best fish&chips ever, especially the Fired John Dory must try! Kids can play in the beach front. Request a front table for the dinner so you can watch the sunset while having the dinner.

we travelled out as a group of supporters for the British Lions third test in early July 2013. About 14 of us ate there and had a superb meal. It is situated a short distance out of the city and connects easily from our hotel at Park Hyatt Quay.
The fish was amazing and the setting relaxed and informal but great quality

One of Sydneys best restaurants and a really good find

I went with my cousin who lives in Coogee and what a mistake. The food was average with cold soggy vegetables and pricey. She hadn't been there for a while and was so disappointed that she recommended it as it has obviously gone down hill. Plenty of staff but they still forgot us. The only saving grace was that we had a table on the balcony but even then there are better places to eat. My poor cousin - she was embarrassed.
