“The Host with the Most!”
Reviewed 8 August 2010

Taking your child 22 hours away from home to go to college is a huge deal in many ways, one of which is travel. We elected to drive up and fly home, leaving a car on campus. This required pulling a U-Haul, so we wanted to stay "off the beaten path" along the way. This is what led us to the Inn at Bee Rock. I gave "Location" above a five star for this reason, not because it is walking distance to anywhere. For us, it was perfect. We didn't want to maneuver a trailer at a B&B on a main thoroughfare!

Mike is a lovely conversationalist, fabulous chef, perfect property manager, and superb servant. I left something in my room there, and emailed him about it right away. He located my item and mailed it free of charge to my house. He goes out of his way to accomodate your schedule and your every need.

Special note: I do a lot of women's retreats also, and this would be a perfect place for that type of event.

We have stayed at many B&B's and this one gets our top rating. Peaceful, spacious, immaculate, friendly hosts, delicious meals and snacks. Such a relaxing destination. Convenient to great hiking areas.

We had our wedding at the Inn on 6/12/10. It was better than we had expected. Please note we planned our wedding from Pennsylvania and had never seen the Inn in person until the day before our wedding at the rehearsal. Mike, Mirtha & Victoria helped us plan the event through phone and email conversations, and were almost always available to answer any questions we had. I will say that the Inn runs a certain way, and we did have to get a lot of our ideas “approved” or altered (i.e. ice cream bar at reception) based on the Inn’s policies and regulations, which caused occasional frustrations. So be sure you check everything with the Inn’s owner before setting certain plans into motion. That being said, the grounds were immaculate. The lawn a lush green and the backdrop scenery proved to be just as promising as it looked in photos! We held our ceremony outdoors by the gazebo—it was hot! though there was some shade and it didn’t rain so no complaints on our end. We had thought the weather in June wouldn’t be as muggy, but it was. The inside of the gazebo was spacious; we were able to have both our unity candle and communion tables inside and were able to walk around them without any problems. We only had about 40 guests but the chair setup was arranged well and it didn’t look too small as we had originally thought it might. We didn’t have an aisle runner, or any chair décor. In fact, the only décor we had for the ceremony was a beautiful wreath that hung in the center of the gazebo (made by a fantastic local florist—Something Different--- which came recommended by the Inn). Both my husband and I had separate rooms inside the Inn for getting ready prior to the ceremony, which we used with our bridesmaids and groomsmen. Though the rooms aren’t very large for half a bridal party, they are comfortable and incredibly clean, and the “girls” room boasted a soaking tub and separate shower. The shower came in handy to freshen up before the ceremony after morning errands in the heat. The Inn was also very welcomed by both us and our bridal party as we waited in air conditioning before the outdoor ceremony began. The inside of the inn, decorated nicely, set a good backdrop for pre-ceremony photos. Make sure you get some on the stairway and by the front door! The reception was great. The Inn provided not only our ceremony & reception locations, but also tables, chairs, linens, and catering services. The pavilion is covered and the fans were on high so it was much more pleasant inside. Also, our wedding began around 3:00 p.m. and it got cooler as our reception began and continued. The sun began setting around 5:30/6. Our guests enjoyed fresh fruit, cheese and crackers, and mini-quiches as appetizers, while we took our professional photos with family and our bridal party in front of the gazebo. Dinner was an incredible plate of chicken breast with herbed seasonings and cheese wrapped in puffed pastry and “baked to perfection”, homemade mashed potatoes (not our favorite—a bit too chunky—but good), Caesar salad, fresh rolls and butter. Dessert was cake (for us to cut) & cupcakes by highly recommended Sweet Sallies bakery from Cookeville, as well as our ice cream & toppings bar which Mike & his team worked hard to keep cool—everything was delicious! The décor that we needed to add, again, was minimal. I must reiterate that the Inn’s stunning setting and well appointed grounds make it to where very little decorating is necessary. The pavilion had white lights strung up and an attached dancing platform (comes with it), and all we added were our table decorations (blue hydrangeas in square vases centerpieces, M&M favors, table numbers and menus tucked into each guests’ napkin), our guestbook and a few framed photos of us on the gift and card tables. For our “bride and groom” table, I used my bouquet as the centerpiece—just laid it on the table. As I said, the Inn provided tables, chairs, linens, and place settings. They also provided us with the stereo system for a small additional cost which worked well hooked up to our IPod (saved a bunch on not using a DJ, and we were able to customize our song selections for the reception—make sure you appoint someone trustworthy to change playlists, we had an “Appetizers, First Dance, Dinner, After Dinner” playlist and our best man did a good job of hitting the play button those four times). Be sure, however, to go over times for pavilion setup with the Inn’s owner, Mike. Typically their setup happens only an hour or so before the ceremony, but worked with us to arrange for setup to be completed earlier by 9:30 a.m. so our parents could come in and decorate with ample time to get ready for the event later. This also allowed the florist to place centerpieces on tables in advance. Between dinner and dessert, my new husband and I ducked out for awhile with our photographers to take the last of our professional photos while the sun was setting. The Inn had so many wonderful spots to take photos, including: a garden, the gazebo, the cliff behind the Inn, and various other spots on the ground’s main lawn and between the beautifully kept mature trees. We could not have asked for a better or more beautiful wedding and reception. All of our guests, including our photographers and videographers, commented on the natural beauty the Inn’s location provided. We’ve already received our picture previews and they are incredible. Wanting an outdoor, laid-back, “simple yet elegant” wedding, we got that and more with this location! If you have the opportunity to choose from this or other locations in the middle Tennessee area, you will not go wrong with The Garden Inn Bed and Breakfast. Their attention to detail, considerable service, clean and beautifully kept facilities and grounds will make your event that more special. We are planning on a stay for our anniversary in the future! –Eric & Kylie

We were in the area for a family reunion. I always like to stay in beautiful places if possible. We found this gem online and took a chance. It was certainly worth it! We were expecting our daughter at the time, and everyone was so eager to please. The food was great! We really liked coming "home" to our dessert from earlier in the evening. Sitting in the dimly lit dining room sharing dessert with my husband was fabulous. We were able to explore the grounds quite a bit. We even brought our family over to show off our lodging choice. It sure beat the hotel that they chose. I'm hoping that we are able to plan another trip with our daughter sometime soon.

This was our third wonderful visit to the Garden Inn. Every May we attend JazzFest in Murfreesboro and head to the Garden Inn the next day. It is a getaway we look forward to all year long. The Inn is spotlessly clean, comfortable and in no way stuffy (as some inns we have stayed at tend to be). We consider Mike, the owner, a personal friend now and always enjoy catching up with him. If you need to find a hiking trail, restaurant or other bit of information, Mike knows it or will find it for you right away. We have stayed in the Iris Room twice but tried the Magnolia Room this time. Both rooms are wonderful, especially since both have the large garden tubs. Snacks and drinks are available when you need them. And Mike makes a fantastic New York-style cheesecake that melts in your mouth (and I normally don't like cheesecake!). Breakfast portions are generous and delicious (custard French toast with blueberry sauce, anyone?). We always leave the Inn feeling relaxed, pampered and refreshed. We'll be back in May 2011!

I had no idea this Inn existed until I found it on the internet. We needed to stop near Cookeville so thought we'd give this Inn a try. The Inn is exquisitely clean and very comfortable. The guest rooms are not large, but very nice and we felt at home. The staff made you feel like they would do absolutely anything for you and we enjoyed talking with Mike the Innkeeper very much. Breakfast and the dessert served in the evening was wonderful and the coffee was the best we ever had and was a special blend of the Innkeeper's. There's not much around Monterey, (you have to go into Cookeville or Crossville for dinner) but if you need a place to stop and rest midway between Nashville and Knoxville, this is a winner.

My husband and I returned here to get some alone time. We stayed in the Iris room for the tub, which was so worth it. My husband surprised me by drawing a bath and poured the whole bottle in not knowing it would be too much. Go light on the bubbles! We explored the property a bit more this time. One trail leads to amazing views. The other abruptly ends but is nice just the same. The food was amazing again, although I didn't care to have the exact same menu. We did come home with some of their amazing coffee. I definitely missed our comforter, but I'll bring it next time! We had dinner at The Brass Lantern, which was a complete disappointment. We are planning another stay soon. We both consider it "our place" now.
