“A WONDERFUL STAY IN A DIVINE B&B”
Reviewed 13 February 2011

We really must congratulate Sheila and John for providing excellent hospitality at their B&B.

On arrival, Sheila showed us around the property and gave us the rundown on where is good to eat in Beechworth. One of her recommendations, The Green Shed, was a great place for dinner. She let us know that they only have a small menu, so we knew what to expect in advance.

Foxgloves is a brilliantly designed B&B. The rooms each have their own ensuite. There was both a fan and air conditioning in our room. Our room opened out onto a nice balcony. We hardly heard a peep out of the other guests......... that is, until breakfast when we all got into a great conversation which covered many different topics.

The bed was comfortable, so we got a great nights sleep. The furnishings are very tasteful, and create a pleasant atmosphere. I believe Sheila said she was from South Africa, so there are some wonderfully artistic pieces around the hallway.

The breakfast was superb, and a good mix of fruit, cereal, toast, jams, juices, tea, coffee and of course cooked items made up a fantastic breakfast menu.

The central location was fantastic. The Burke Museum was literally right across the road. There is a short cut down the side of the museum over to the tourist information centre. We did both the "gold rush' and "Ned Kelly" tours and this was an excellent way to find out about this historic town.

I would highly recommend the town of Beechworth for a country escape, and strongly recommend you consider staying at Foxgloves. We were made to feel like family from the instant we arrived, and it was almost a shame to leave!!

Had to stay as it was recommended by my daughter from the year before.A very good choice, very central ( 0nly 1 street behind the main road.) but very quiet.Rooms lovely and clean.Sheila and John made us very welcome, enjoyed our interesting conversations.A bit limited to choice of restaurants but for 2 nights its OK. Beechworth is very interesting with guided walks and history of Ned Kelly etc.Plus of course BEECHWOOD BAKERY Yummie Yummie A lovely day can also be spent at Bright just over 1 hour away with lovely walks by the river.Plus in April the autumn colour.
Thank you Sheila and John.

We were so fortunate to find this place - we were thinking of breaking our journey in Albury and someone on a forum on this site mentioned Beechworth as an alternative. What a shout - Beechworth is just great.

The 'town' is really only two main roads which cross each other - whatever time it is, it is quiet where traffic is rare. A lot of buildings in the town are preserved by Australian heritage but even the ones that aren't are beautiful. We spent our time just walking up and down browsing and of course buying scrummy cakes at the famous Beechworth Bakery. We did visit the court house where Ned Kelly was tried and it is so well done.

And so to Foxgloves. When we arrived, Sheila came out to meet us, showed us our room and offered us 'something naughty with cream'. This was served in the beautiful garden with as much tea as you liked. Sheila then helped us with ideas for dinner - all of which were of course in strolling distance.

Our room was beautiful. John and Sheila live in another building at the back of the house so the living area of the house is entirely for guests. Like all parts of the house it is beautifully and tastefully decorated. There is sherry and port available too if that is to your taste.

Breakfast was great, served by Sheila with her usual character. We were really sad to leave - we were only there one night but felt like we were leaving friends.

This place has it all, a beautiful place to stay of the highest standard in a stunning setting with great hosts (and no we are not the owners just big fans).
