Recently we visited the Breton Creperie that fills a void in the Beechworth eating scene.
Chef Michel Renoux has designed an appealing Creperie Bistro menu for locals and visitors.
We enjoyed a delicious Canard Wellington for entree. While Mains included Coq Au Vin, Pork Roulade Au Four, Navarin D'Agneau and Parisian Bifteak we opted for a Savoury Crepe of Roast Pumpkin, ham hock and pork that was excellent. (Twelve different crepes and Galettes were listed) Then a superb 'Stanley Salad' with locally grown garden greens, apple, pear, walnut and cider vinaigrette. Just managed to share a very good Berry Crepe with icecream for dessert. There's an excellent local wine list too. Worth a visit!

Being only one of two couples dining, the place was kinda lonely. Very hard to find in the dark with extremely poor signposting for the restaurant. We nearly gave up before finding it. The waiter was very attentive and the food was good

Warm inviting, while they dont have a huge menu what they do offer is top class, delicious meals and the service is great with very friendly staff. Nice to enjoy a wine and be able to just walk back to your room

Staying just one night in Beechworth, our host recommended George's Bar & Restaurant. The idea is there, the enthusiasm of the chef is there, it's a shame the same enthusiasm didn't extend to the staff. The hard work by the chef was let down by little things, such as poor quality bread, chopped and served in a wicker basket dating back to the days of Chicken & Chips in a basket (very 80's) and some poor quality olive oil - it was just a bit amateurish. Such a shame when the chef obviously has great ideas for his menu offerings. They just need to work on the presentation.

There was no atmosphere with the lighting too bright, the layout of the tables, the poor choice of table items such as salt/pepper pots, it reminded me of being in the school dining hall. All which could easily be rectified - lower the lighting to create some ambiance to match the food served. At the moment this restaurant falls between two stones, it's not sure whether it's fine dining (with the menu) or bistro/brasserie/cafe, with bare tables whichever George's is, they need to identify what they are and get it right with the styling. The food was good but the prices were too high given the overall experience.

We chose to eat here as we were staying at the restaurant and couldn't face going out into town. What a great surprise to find that it was simply excellent. Great food and attentive service. What a nice find!
