We were excited to take the kids to the drive-in just like we used to when we were kids.
I should have reviewed the prices prior to promising the kids of this outing.
We paid $100 for our young family of 8. Not charged per car, but per person.
Our 4,7,9,11 year olds cost $10 each. Our concession, not yet legally allowed to have a job 13 & 14 year olds cost $14 each and us 2 adults $16 each = GRAND TOTAL $100
There was absolutely no flexibility in pricing even though it was quite obvious we were a family unit and also obvious there was no attempt on my behalf to lie about the number of children & their ages. When I questioned the price and asked if they had a family discount I was told in no uncertain terms that there was no discount for families and was subsequently lectured and quizzed about what cinemas I normally go to and how much I pay there. I wasn't really wanting a debate! I was then told that we would have a great experience at the drive-in - so we embraced the 'experience'.
Snuggled up in the back of the car with our children - pity the sound was mega-crackly! I went to the diner and told them the sound was crackly, while most attendants showed disinterest in my concern, one lady said she would tell the operator. That was that! I suppose she did tell the operator but the sound quality didn't change and for $100 I didn't intend to miss the movie!
Another frustration and oddity was the GIRLS toilets. No locks on any of the doors, most had run out of toilet paper.
I have now made my donation to the Dromana Drive-In and will only return when a family price is negotiated. Seriously, the 4 year old went to sleep and we were only taking up one car space!
Wake-up Dromana Drive-In! The prices are too high for families, they can't afford to use your unique facility.
