If you consider this resort accommodation, make sure you are going to get a larger room the basic ones are minute. We read through these reviews before we booked and hoped that the good ones were correct but were so disappointed with this accommodation. Check in was a debacle, we were going to be moved 3 times in the first few days until we complained. First room we were given was disgusting- bed side lights not working, hole in the wardrobe, no fire alarm only the evidence of one being there at some time and the blind on the window not working. We did get moved to another better room for the rest of the week which was basic but probably fair value for Australian ski resorts.

Room Tip: Ring back after you book to make sure you have a bigger room booked.

This couple were out to get the best value at the least expense from the beginning. They conned me and the booking agent into using a book direct $100.00 dinner voucher. Directly contacted me later to get a discount by cutting agent (which I declined). They persistently badgered both of us - Voucher honoured even though it stated clearly - direct bookings.Booked a standard room, would not pay extra for a larger room. Complained about moving 3 times - On arrival demanded a larger room which I provided ( No extra charge) Moved them again as this room was booked later- they agreed to be upgraded again. Provided a free bottle of wine.Ended up with exceptional value for their holiday - No thanks given. Everyday complaining to other guests who avoided them. Lodge had comprehensive fire inspection beginning of season by 2 sources - passed.
I had considered not replying to this review - some people are beyond pleasing.

We visited Feathertop during the Winter school holidays which is peak season. As a family of 2 adults and 2 children we paid $646 per night which included room and breakfast in a lodge that should not be operating it was so poor.

Pros
Close to village and main ski lift.
Didn't need oversnow transport.

Cons
The room was so small with a double bed and bunk beds that there was not enough room to put suitcases on the floor and then have space to walk. The cupboard couldn't be used as the base was broken out of it (and the door of it wouldn't close either).

Our heating wasn't working and after 2 complaints to management they still didn't attend to it. My husband had to raid linen cupboards in the hallway during the night to try to find extra blankets but could only find a couple of doona covers.

Our room did not have any towels when we checked in at about 5pm. When we asked management the staff member who was eating her dinner bluntly informed us that they were in the washing. My husband had to ask a second time before towels were provided.

On the first evening our friend's bathroom door fell off and was not fixed throughout the stay even though they notified the owner on the first day. The shelf in our bathroom was also broken which meant there was nowhere to put toiletries in the bathroom as there was no bench.

Our rooms were meant to be serviced daily but we discovered that this consisted of not making the beds but pulling up the doonas and not even making them straight.

Our room did not have any power points and not even bedside lights or clock to use a power point from. We ended up borrowing an extension cord so that we could power some medical equipment from the bathroom.

The fire alarms went off twice while we were there. We attempted to follow the emergency procedure that should have been on the back of the door but found that it had fallen off. We later found it fallen down the broken base of the cupboard. No one came to inform us that it was a false alarm on either occasion.

Breakfast is advertised as being from 7-30am but we soon discovered that 7-30am is when the chef wakes up. He stumbles down the stairs shortly after and then starts to get breakfast ready. On our last morning it was well past 7-30am so a guest from another party took it upon herself to go to the kitchen and get breakfast ready.

On the first night we made the mistake of having dinner in the very expensive restaurant. It took an hour and 20 minutes before the first meal arrived and then none of the meals came out together so we all had to eat separately.

Some other guests in the lodge found a mouse in her room and went to complain to management who provided her with a mousetrap to catch it herself.

The ski room and drying room were tiny and could really only accommodate 2 people at a time getting ready.

The lodge advertises a guest washing machine but guests are restricted to using it only a couple of hours a day on only a couple of days a week.

The communal lodge area was too small for more than a couple of guests to enjoy at a time.

The place was old, dirty, run down and should not be operating. The owner appeared to have no idea that his place was in such a bad shape and that people expect more. Unfortunately we were unable to change hotels as we had prepaid and it was peak season.

Will we ever stay there again? NO WAY!!!!! We spoke to all of the other guests staying at the time and they all agreed.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

My husband and I stayed here July 2012 and had a fantastic time. We felt more like part of the family by the time we left and certainly wished we could have stayed longer. Great bar with fantastic happy hour pricing, perfect after a full day of skiing.

Our room was cozy, with classic alpine styling, and had a beautiful view of our winter wonderland straight out the window, and was similar in size to most hotel rooms. There is plenty of room for storing suitcases and clothing.

Loved the ski-in, ski-out features making it so easy to pop back to our room for a rest.

The ambience of the lounge/bar/restaurant area was perfect, with nightly entertainment. The staff were abreast of other activities and events that were on during the week.

The restaurant served the best food that we had whilst on the trip, and even though we had planned to eat at a different restaurant each night, we ended up eating at the lodge restaurant on numerous occasions. A cooked and continental breakfast was included in our rates and was cooked to order and served with a smile.

We would recommend this lodge to young couples, small groups and anyone that likes to feel like they are staying at a home away from home.

Great position, friendly staff and lots of potential but fell short on some basic communication and organisation ... ran out of breakfast bowls, cups and plates (and one day eggs!). Although the hot breakfast food was great, these other things tend to leave a bad impression that could be avoided so easily! Dinner and dessert the first night was delicious but then dessert was downgraded the next night to icecream, then no dessert the following night, then ice cream or brownie from then on! The restaurant can get busy and there seems to be no priority to get your in-house guests dinner before they start to wilt from hunger and then cater for the rest of the mountain! Our saving grace was fresh snow during our stay which put a smile on the dial which was hard to wipe off even with a series of irritations!

Room Tip: Ask for a room without noisy water pipes!

Feathertop's friendly, personal service made our one-night stay comfortable and memorable. The kind and considerate owner, John, couldn't do enough for me, my ski-mad husband and our six-month old daughter to sure we had everything we needfoot enjoy our mini-break.

Our room was clean, comfortable and warm. Pre-dinner drinks in the bar were cosy in front of the open fire. And dinner was one of the highlights of our stay - absolutely delicious and accompanied by an acoustic guitar player.

All in all, a very pleasant place to spend a few days in the snow. We will stay here again if we return to Falls Creek. (We currently live in Hong Kong.)

Feathertop is probably the best little gem of all the lodges in Falls Creek. It's got great friendly staff but the real delight is the fabulous restaurant which offers outstanding food, comparable with some of the best on offer in either Melbourne or Sydney.

I highly recommend it.
