BVI recently looked after us for my sons ( David Surtees and Vicky Victoria Soos' ) wedding. I have to say we had the most fantastic and special weekend, with absolutely nothing being too much trouble for the BVI. From the large to the small is was provided with a smile and excellent service. Food was magnificent across the menu.

Letting me borrow Grandfathers cufflinks and going out to buy small cigars are just two examples of the extra mile that was travelled to ensuring satisfaction for all.

I can't recommend the BVI enough to others - congratulations BVI - Well Done...!

Yesterday (Sunday) my wife, daughter, dog and I visited the BVI - wow what a transformation. The owners have spent some serious money renovating this lovely pub into a fabulous location. The pub is decorated well throughout, the addition of an onsite Deli is great and the whole setting is a vast improvement since the previous tenants. We ordered Sunday lunch, which was wonderful. My daughter and I ordered Roast beef, which I have to say is probably the best beef I have eaten in a pub. My wife's roast chicken was lovely. The service was excellent and they were very attentive to our daughter and 1 year old spaniel. Highly recommended!

Since the BVI reopened Easter this year I have eaten 5 meals there. Consequently feel pretty competent in writing this review.
Decor is great, for my money they have done a good job.
Beer is great 4 proper beers (which change) I have been careful to continuously sample them all and am delighted to confirm they are all kept perfectly.
Food, early comments have been listened to so there is a sub £10 bar menu. I have experienced the Rib eye, rack of lamb, charcuterie board, fish board, fish and chips, sausage and mash and last night the magnificent roast chump of lamb. Each meal has been fantastic so they really are getting right. Observation, you need more bread/toast with the boards they are loaded so 4 little bits of bread don't do it!
Value, it is relatively expensive and the wine list could do with a couple of cheaper yet cheerful options. 10% is added as service charge which of course you can alter if you wish.
Service, this is my only real issue everything seems to take a long time. On a busy night when the bar is full the staff have to fight through the throng with the food. They just don't seem quick enough. It's a real pity as I said at the top really wanted to give it 5.
In any event well pleased with the new look and v happy that new life has been breathed into the BVI.

Ate here for an evening meal for the first time since it changed hands and has been refurbished. The interior is very nicely done, with some local artwork which is a nice touch.
Food wise it was good, although not quite on a par with the best in the area. There is always a tricky balance to get right with service in 'gastro' pubs. Informal is fine, but when you're paying £15-20 for a main course it still needs to be good. Spilling wine, forgetting cutlery, having to get up and ask for the bill etc... falls a bit short.

We all felt they were charging top dollar for what you got, and I felt the wine list was slightly overpriced compared to established competitors.

BVI also automatically adds 10% service charge to all bills, regardless of table size. Tips should be left to customer discretion in my view.

BVI was a typical poorly run and run down awful old pub - not any more. Wow what a difference, the interior is well thought out designer rustic with lots of nice touches; like a private dining room and a lounge area. The staff are welcoming and attentive, the menu is reassuringly small and all the dishes were structured and cooked well. Two of us shared the cote du boeuf which was cooked perfectly rare without a bone and absolutely delicious. I also liked the sharing platters of charcuterie and stuff. Wines to suit all palates and pockets as well. Most of all I was impressed with the speed of service which can often ruin a good meal. Keep it up guys and I am looking forward to coming back soon.

Visited here with a friend and was made most welcome. Food was great and spent a long time talking at the bar with Steve, who told us all about the new owners and their plans. Had fantastic evening and got recommended some great wines. Will visit the Yew Tree when it reopens as was recommnded.
