Bourne Valley Inn
Reviewed 18 August 2013

we have just returned from a 3 night stay here with friends. We found the place a delight from the well equipped bedrooms which are well furnished and the beds most comfortable. The bathroom is well stocked with good toiletries and the bath fills extremely quickly with lots of hot water. The tea/coffee tray is the best ever with filter coffee and cafetier and bottled still and sparkling water which was replenished each day. The food is good both in the restaurant and at breakfast with high quality produce. All the staff were friendly and helpful who took time out to have a chat. The position of the Inn is set on a water meadow, which for us being interested in botany was really interesting. The village is very pretty with lots of thatched houses in one direction and the other there is water cress beds growing in the lovely clean waters. I can definitely recommend this hotel and will return if in the area again and have already passed the details on to family members looking for a weekend break.

Room Tip: we were on the ground floor with rooms next tom each other which is ideal if travelling with others...

Having driven for miles after a weekend in Brighton, finding this revamped pub was a revelation. The roast beef was delicious and the service attentive but relaxed. Perfect atmosphere...and the gooseberry fool was to die for! Will be back!

We rang in the morning for a room and could not have been more happy with the service from when we got there to when we left. The restaurant made us an excellent meal, the charcuterie board followed by trout/lamb, both excellent. Breakfast was also great, the black pudding seemingly bespoke made. Will certainly stay here again if in the area.

Our first meal at the recently refurbished Bourne Valley Inn was great, we were very impressed with the decor and staff and had such a lovely time that we booked back for a celebratory meal with friends and family a few weeks later. Unfortunately this was a train wreck, everything went wrong in the kitchen that night, which is such a let -down when you've had expectations high and especially when its a special occasion. However, proprietor Barry dealt with the issues very well indeed, acknowledging the many issues and dealing with them very well indeed, ultimately furnishing us with a huge and superb cheese board and wine that we could all dig in to and enjoy. He also offered to host us all for a return visit, an offer which we took him up on a couple of weeks ago.

On this return, the food and service were superb... between 8 of us we could not fault a single thing. The starter boards (meat, fish and veg) were brilliant (the fresh pickled vegetable accompaniments were particularly good); the steaks were superbly cooked and seasoned, with crisp chips and good sauces. The cheese board (as already noted) is highly recommended, but on this occasion I choose the gooseberry fool, and was not disappointed, tangy creamy delicious!

Most recent visit - last night (Sunday) we shared a whole chicken roasted with Thyme and garlic, served on a board with goose fat potatoes, carrots, parsnips, greens and bread sauce. Again it was superb... the bird was small but very good quality meat, full of flavour with good dense meat... I imagine this is a well cared for bird. More than enough for 2 people to share and would comfortably stretch to 3 people... 4 people if you had starters or a desert as well.

Its great to have found somewhere close to home where the food (now!) matches expectations, which is stylish, welcoming, supports local producers (and brewers!), and whose staff are warm and convivial.

We look forward to returning soon!

Just returned from a quick 'on spec' visit to the Bourne Valley Inn. Never been before even though its only 4 miles along the road. We had a lovely meal (Burger and Ceasar Salad (Cray fish) accompanied by a decent wine (in a decent glass :), we sat both inside and out and both were equally comfortable and in great surroundings. The antics of Paddy the pub spaniel were very funny - he even brought the stick we threw for him inside whilst we paid the bill! Well done BVI we will be back over the summer holidays to enjoy more and bring the family.

PS Rivals the other local 'gastro pub' IFKWIM!!

BVI recently looked after us for my sons ( David Surtees and Vicky Victoria Soos' ) wedding. I have to say we had the most fantastic and special weekend, with absolutely nothing being too much trouble for the BVI. From the large to the small is was provided with a smile and excellent service. Food was magnificent across the menu.

Letting me borrow Grandfathers cufflinks and going out to buy small cigars are just two examples of the extra mile that was travelled to ensuring satisfaction for all.

I can't recommend the BVI enough to others - congratulations BVI - Well Done...!

Yesterday (Sunday) my wife, daughter, dog and I visited the BVI - wow what a transformation. The owners have spent some serious money renovating this lovely pub into a fabulous location. The pub is decorated well throughout, the addition of an onsite Deli is great and the whole setting is a vast improvement since the previous tenants. We ordered Sunday lunch, which was wonderful. My daughter and I ordered Roast beef, which I have to say is probably the best beef I have eaten in a pub. My wife's roast chicken was lovely. The service was excellent and they were very attentive to our daughter and 1 year old spaniel. Highly recommended!
