“Stay for a business trip”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

I found the Hawk Inn after doing some frantic serching for accomodation after a last minute work trip was organised.
After a quick call room was booked and all was well, although I was more concerned about a bed for the night what I found was an ideal place to stay with a good restaurant, excellent choice of beers and wines at reasonable prices.
Judging by the ammount of people in the restaurant on a Monday evening many locals also make good use of the inn.

Room Tip: If possible ask for a large room I got room 6 which although comfortable was a little cramped and h...

This is a well appointed inn, just let down slightly by showing signs of heavy use over the last few years. You shouldn't let this put you off, but just don't expect everything to be in pristine condition. Very good shower and no noise problems on Friday & Saturday nights. Continental breakfast is included in the price and a cooked breakfast is an optional extra. This is situated in a very picturesque village and if you're exploring rural Hampshire then it would be a very good base.

have been staying in the Andover area on business for some time and struggling to find anywhere decent. This gastro pub/hotel was recommended to me so i stayed two weeks ago and had a first class experience. Tried it for a second time prior to this review just to make sure it wasn't a fluke.
The owners have put a lot of thought into this place. The staff are all young people and are very pleasant and efficient. Chek in was very quick and easy. The bedrooms are well kitted out with comfortable beds. As a tip, both rooms i had were equally good although i found on my first visit room 2 was better than room 5 as room 5 was very hot as it must be above the kitchen.
Food was very good indeed on both occasions. I had fish but the table next to me had a burger which looked enormous. The restaurant bar is a large open room with wood floors so can seem noisy when there are only a small amount of people there.
I personally found the atmosphere very nice.
The only slight downside is that breakfast did take a while on both occasions I stayed and i was the only one there. No big ssue as i was in no rush.
Prices are pretty standard for this area and i would say this place offers good value for money compared to anywhere else at this price range.

Stayed in the pub for six nights and had a lovely time. Rooms were lovely and clean, bathroom more than adequate, all that you need i.e. soap, shampoo, cotton buds, face cloths, hairdryer and towels of course. Bottled water and tea/coffee were in the room for you to make. Bed was comfortable and lovely made up in crisp white linen. A breakfast consisting of bread, croissants , diced fruits , yoghurts and cereals is included but if you want a full english breakfast or other then you pay extra, but we were fine. The bread and croissants were freshly baked everyday. Staff were friendly and helpful at all time. Had dinner one evening at the Hawk and the food was lovely, nothing to complain about. The village is absolutely typical english, like a postcard. Very picturesque with thatched cottages and beautiful country gardens and rolling hills so we just had to take a walk every morning and evening. Wouldn`t have missed it for the world and would go back again.

we had dinner there with friends who had come down from Birmingham, thinking that this would be a lovely country pub to take them to. It wasn't a good experience at all. The food is overpriced and is not hot when it arrives. It is horribly noisy and yet there is no atmosphere in there at all.
Just another charmless Gastropub. Not worth the journey or the money

Stayed here 1 night while traveling on business. Old style inn. Staff very friendly and helpful. Did not eat in hotel. Room was very good but heat control on shower was not working which can be very frustrating and can spoil a good experience. Overnight rate was also a bit high at £100 relative to what can be available elsewhere.

We eat pretty regularly at the Hawk and usually enjoy our experience. Today we treated our familiy to Sunday lunch and, whilst not a disaster, we were not very pleased. Starters were were good, as were the puddings. However, the main meal was not piping hot when served and one of our party had to wait for at least 15 minutes before his food arrived - and we had to remind the staff that we were still waiting. The replenishment of drinks was also poor. We were not in the main dining area and it seemed as if the staff were a bit overawed by the numbers dining. The floor manager acknowledged that there was a problem and we did not pay for the late meal.
The Hawk needs to get its act together if it is to retain loyal customers.
