“Always busy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2013

We've eaten here at various times of the day and it's always busy. We've visited for breakfast and lunch, both of which were fine but my favourite time for eating at the Hawk is for supper. It's a simple menu that uses local produce but all is good. Particular favourites for me, if they're on are the chilli squid and guinea fowl. Service is always good - attentive but not intrusive and it's decorated in a modern and stylish way.

“Dont overstay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2013

We went back to the hawk because they had always looked after us so well. Once again the Front of House Manager was on duty and did a sterling job. The first two courses were served speedily and were all hot with very smart presentation. Then after the FOHM told us she was leaving and her colleague would look after us it went downhill. No staff to serve us and when we cleared the tables ourselves we were told the kitchen was closed. Perhaps they should let you know that the kitchen was closed or only served ice cream or something similar if the chef has left, but at least just let us know. When I settled the bil and voiced my dissatisfaction their will lottle or no sign of acknowledgement. However later that day the FOHM called me to enquire about our visit and the comments I raised at the payment point. She duly apolgised and refunded the service charge so the next time we go we will make sure that she is on duty.

“Not very welcoming”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2013

A lovely sunny day and you could have sat outside. The food was not very good the service - well we were't made to feel welcome at all. 4 of us met for a birthday lunch. The good point was you could chose from bar or restaurant menu and still eat together, The sausages were great but distinct lack of gravy. The steak baquette was dry something like a slice of tomato on side would have helped.

We may pop in for a coffee as they had a log fire and armchairs but we passed on the desserts nothing took our fancy and at £6 each thought them over priced.

“Eating at the Hawk Inn”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 April 2013

After booking a table we arrived to be completely ignored by staff and had to take initiative to finally shown to our table. The fire in the lounge area was low and a lady on the table next to us even went to take initiative to put a log on the fire, only to find the log basked was empty. I've ordered the bread starter which as best could be described as stale flat bread a couple of slices of brown (out of a packet and by no means fresh) and some ready bake baguette, I sent it back only to find the flat bread had been replaced with slightly fresher. My husband tried to order the hawk pie, only to be told they were out, but as we finished our main meal a gent on the table next to us received a hawk pie! I had the salmon and samphire linguine, which had a stodgy sauce (plain rue) and was tasteless. My husband was not impressed with his Hawk burger either. Overall a very disappointing experience. Have written to the restaurant and am awaiting a reply in the hope they may take my feedback seriously and use it for improvement. This is the first time ever I have left negative feedback anywhere, even though we frequently eat out.

“Good service, good value.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2013

Good atmosphere, staff friendly and attentive. Good choice from menu, food arrived in good time and was cooked well. looking forward to visiting again.

We are local and like to support our local restaurants, most are good but unfortunately some take advantage of passing trade on the A 303
