“Fantastic experience at Lakeside Tourist Park.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2013

Well where to start with my wonderful experience In Halls Gap at The Lakeside Camping Grounds over the New Year. I am a city girl at heart so had reservation’s about camping at all never mind that I have a vision impairment. I absolutely have to say it was amazing indeed, right from the lovely clean facilities to the beauty of the animals that wondered down the hills at dusk. Living with a disability can be frightening in our own environments however if there are people wishing to experience getting out side of their square then this is the place. They supply large bathrooms, even and consistent stairs with hand rails, and huge communal kitchen/lounging areas. If wheelchair bound I do believe it is completely manageable. For getting back to nature the camping grounds are kept in pristine cleanliness which is always a bonus.

Hall’s Gap has stunning walks, mind blowing water falls which was a personal feat for me to be guided down and have the effect of the atmosphere. All these things I am truly grateful to have touched on and The Lakeside Camping Grounds made this all the more enjoyable. The Kangaroo’s, Emu’s, and the beautiful bird life felt like magic and I would recommend this to absolutely everyone. If your looking for that back to basics relaxing holiday then consider here you will experience it all.

Oh yes for all us real coffee drinkers they make beautiful ones that match any city café, and come on people we all need that good java fix even in the bush hahahahaaha. To the team of Lakeside keep up the excellent work.

Positively in ore,

Ali

New Years Eve at the Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park! It was one of the best campsites we've ever been to, taking into account the value for money, the location, but especially the owners and their staff! Josephina is the sweetest person ever, makes good Lattes and even provides you with imported Dutch Licorice! The facilities are clean, the "private bathroom" block brand new and Emus, Kangaroos and Kakadoos are to be seen really close.

We had a wonderful time, went for a great hike (recommended and explained by a young staff member from Belgium) and had fun listening to the band who was playing for NYE.

ALSO - the free WiFi is a big plus, something really rare in Australia so far!

We'd definitely would come back, great atmosphere, great people ... if you could only train the Kakadoos not to wake people up at 7:00 am :-)

Thank you - Nora & Pete & family from Germany

Definitely the place to stay in Halls Gap, even as locals this would be our choice to stay! Magnificent scenery, wildlife on tap, fabulous grassy areas and the most welcoming hosts you would ever hope to find. A little way out of town, so make sure you shop for supplies before getting to Halls Gap as prices are premium. Town bakery great for bread and milk on a daily basis. Many great family walks Venus Baths, Clematis Falls, Silverband Falls, Chataqua Peak (this one is quite difficult but not as hard as The Pinnacle) and Fyans Creek Loop. Great Lakes nearby Lake Fyans, Lake Lonsdale, Wartook and Bellfield. You can see many Aussie animals right here on site at the park, kangaroos, deer, emu and cockatoos! Fantastic gift shop on site that has many little treasures so don't forget to stop

We recently stayed in one of the new cabins - the spa suite and it was fantastic! With views from the deck looking out towards the mountains (rather than into the caravan park) and wonderful spacious interiors, this cabin was more than you could ask for in comfort and luxury. 2 double bedrooms, large bathroom with spa, well equipped kitchen and dining plus lounge.
If it's wildlife you are after then this is the place to be - kangaroos and emus roam freely through the park and surrounding areas.
One of the other great things about this park is the shop. Owner Josephina has set up a gorgeous range of giftware, toys and children's wear in the reception area where you can also enjoy a latte or cappuccino as you browse.
We will certainly be back and we might even find out how Rohan (Josephina's husband) keeps the grass so green!

Overseas visitors if you want to get up close and personal with some of the iconic animals of Australia ,then stay at this park.It is beautifully maintained and is in a quiet location about 6 Kilometres outside of town where the passing traffic will not bother you. Rohan and Josephina the park managers are very friendly and will go out of their way to help you. Fabulous camp kitchen complete with open log fire for cold nights. The tables even have table cloths.Camping sites have plenty of shade and a good grassy surface..The Grampians are a fabulous part of Victoria and there are some great walks and excellent views as well.

The man at check in was extremelly friendly and helpful. The park was clean, tidy and just had a good feel about it. We had a beautiful fire and the man brought the wood and pit down to us promptly. No problems with the amenities. No problems at all really. We will definitely be back if we pass through that way again. What a beautiful relaxing night it was.

We stayed for one night in a Budget cabin @ $85pn (£55.40) on Lakeside Caravan Park, Halls Gap : Verandah across front and down one side of small wooden cabin. Small folding table and 2 chairs. Inside: round dining table and 4 chairs by front window. A/C-heater unit. Kitchen bar along side wall : Sink with one drainer. 2-burner and grill. MW, fridge and kettle. 5 cupboard doors and one drawer. (Equipment very basic, only 2 of everything, poor quality and mismatched.) 6 cupboard doors above, and TV (up high, so difficult to make out picture if you sit down on the settee!). (Door into bedroom) Low twin settee and small coffee table. Mirror, to right of settee, and left of front door. Bedroom: (Sliding door to shower room) Queen bed (good firm mattress), with one blanket, and choice of 2 pillows. Corner shelf to left of bed, next to back window. Double wardrobe, 1/2 shelved. Shower room: Shower-stall, with good flexible shower head. Shower curtain (but it didn’t billow into you, as some do!). (It says to allow at least 15 mins for water to re-heat!) Small wash basin with cupboard below. (No shelf) Mirror above basin. Toilet. Mini soap, shampoo and conditioner. 2 bath towels, 1 hand, 1 face cloth, and bath mat. Park : well-designed, with 22 cabins around the perimeter, and campsites in the middle. Playground and pool. Free WIFI, but poor reception. Counted at least 14 emus in marshland behind our cabin, and saw at least a dozen wallabies (or little roos, anyway), at one time, grazing right behind our cabin, at dusk. Also, lots of Sulphur crested cockatoos, and some fairy wrens.

Only big problem is, because of the wildlife (deer apparently, as well as roos), there are animal droppings all over the place, and you have to watch your feet. I wouldn't want a child running free there!
