“Unhygenic plates”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 September 2013

Recently dined at the Healesville Hotel expecting something above average, especially as the price was above average.
The food was OK but not special. What really set us back was the fact that the main course was serviced on chipped plates. One plate had 3 chips, about 3mm to 8mm across. We didn't complain at the time as we thought the chips were too obvious for kitchen staff not to miss and felt it pointless in doing so. However, we sent an email to the management not long afterwards and didn't get a reply or any sort of acknowledgement. We have passed on our thoughts to many friends and will contue to do so.

The above complaint was received at the hotel in July and we addressed the chipped plates immediately ... We however did fail to contact the guests - for which we take full responsibility and have since apologised and acknowledged the complaint. We take all feedback very seriously and are constantly striving to maintain and better our business including our communication processes which were lacking at this point - Kylie Balharrie (owner)

Me and had my family had dinner at the Healsville Hotel on a Tuesday night where they offer a Rump steak special. $26 will get you 300 grams of rmp steak cooked to your liking with some Dobson smashed spuds and mushrooms. The meal was a bit more than I normally eat at any time of the day but I managed to get through it. My wife had the same while my kids split a chicken schnitzel. We opted to sit in the pub with the open fire and it was so Yarra Valley perfect. The Hotel has many beers on tap and a nice wine list. If your after some awesome sliced ham or fancy cheese just visit the KB butcher next door during daylight trading hours. I always make a point of popping in for a beer when we visit the Valley. A must do for any traveler to the Valley

There was a group of 14 people this Sunday that went for lunch "Sunday 9th June,2013" and had a set menu, the main was lamb no taste, very fatty, looked as if it was steamed not oven cooked, waited over hour and half and when it came they served 4 small dishes for 14 people and three small serving of salad it was a disgrace OOh and a few potatoes. We will never suggest for anyone to go there. The only good thing was the room we had and serves but thats it. Over charged and majer let down came from Melbourne.
The cheff should be a shamed of sending out the meal.

After meandering through the Yarra Valley and visiting Healesville Sanctuary we had a wander along the high street just as the shops were closing. We saw this Hotel and thought we would pop in for a drink and ended up staying for a meal in the bar. I had a look around the hotel, it is beautifully decorated, lovely old furniture, cracking open fires, 'interesting' paintings, quality dining room and other function rooms. It had a written history, and on the menu I loved the 'kitchen write-up' regarding the fresh farm produce. The menu itself was interesting and quality, we ordered the special and my only gripe was that the meat portion was smaller than expected, it came with bone marrow of which I would have needed a magnifying glass to find. The salad and vegetables tasted as though they had just been picked from the garden and immediately cooked - wonderfully fresh and beautifully presented. I thought the staff very professional, very helpful and friendly. On the chalk board they had a Spanish evening, so I guess they have all kinds of sampling evenings - great fun! The wine list was very well presented with some very nicely picked wines on offer.

The staff here are 'chilled' according to a previous reviewer. Maybe they are, but their patronising approach left me 'frozen'.
I don't like being called 'Buddy' by an 18 year old Hollywood starlet wearing an insincere grin, I don't like self-absorbed staff-members shouting personal communication to each other across my dining table and I don't like being constantly asked... "how's your meals guys"? I didn't like it in Los Angeles and I like it even less in Healsville.
The food and amenities here are good so why is it necessary to adopt such 'plastic' methods when 'polite and charming' has always worked well?

We have stayed a number times and really enjoy it. Sure the bathrooms are down the corridor but we have never found that to be a major issue and it is important to retain the character of a lovely building. If you have a room at the front, expect some street noise as the hotel is on the highway, but you can make use of the supplied earplugs if you really need to (we didn't bother). We will stay again.

We stayed at the healesville hotel last night, and also had drinks at the bar during the day as well as dinner in the bar later that night. Staff are chilled, young and relaxed. Any person posting a negative tripadvisor review regarding staff attitude simply doesn't understand the vibe the managers and staff are going for..... Cool and calm staff who know their stuff and like to chat about wines etc, but who can have a laugh and don't sweat the small stuff. We loved it.

We appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your recent stay at the hotel. There’s no greater motivation than to be able to pass on a positive review to the entire team.
