“Fantastic accommodation in a beautiful setting”
Reviewed 18 June 2013

We just got back from a night at one of these fantastic cabins and couldn't have been happier with the experience. It was extremely comfortable and the owners have been very thoughtful in the design and the care they take to make the whole experience so enjoyable. The spa overlooking the valley is a wonderful way to spend an evening!

There are only 2 cabins on the property and they are both very private from each other - we didn't even know that there was anyone else on the land.

One of the best things about this property is all the thought and detail that the owners have put into the experience. Check in/out has an option of 3pm / 12pm or 5pm / 3pm so this really lets you make the most of this fantastic space. The spa is definitely a highlight but so is the fireplace, selection of DVDs and CDs as well as the cheese platter on arrival and massive breakfast provisions - we could have probably had 3 breakfasts each if we wanted. The cabin can also be heated or cooled by an air conditioner and has a bar fridge, microwave and gas stove top for all your cooking needs. There is a BBQ out on the balcony but it was a bit cold to be outside this winter!

Highly recommended to couples for a romantic night away!

The first thing that struck us was the outstanding view of the valley. We picked up some beautiful food in Healesville, which by the way has no shortage of amazing local produce. If you are planning to cook on the little bbq grill, don't forget to pick something up on the way, as you won't want to leave the retreat once you arrive. The welcome pack included everything you need for a nice cooked breakfast and some snacks. The hosts are amazing in that they will happily accommodate any requests for your stay. We took advantage of this and requested some yummy chocolates be included in the welcome pack. We loved sitting out on the deck all evening, even more so as we got to enjoy the fruits of the day's wine country touring. When you are there it is impossible to believe it is so close to Melbourne, we thoroughly recommend this place for a quiet country escape.

We had a wonderful stay at Kangaroo Retreat. The property was impeccably clean and well set up, including the breakfast that was provided. We had incredible weather and loved the breathtaking views from the balcony while also enjoying all the Yarra Valley has to offer. It was exactly what we were looking for. Thanks

It had been years since we had been to Kangaroo ridge and driving up the road to the top of the hill felt like nothing had changed. Olga and John were friendly and wonderful and the setting was just a beautiful and peaceful as we remembered. We stayed three nights but wished it could have been a week as the environment is so quiet and restful.

We stayed over a hot summer weekend. Breakfast provisions were thoughtful and generous. Cheese platter was delightfully garnished with antipasto. The BBQ hamper which cost $50 has got wholesome steaks and sausages, mushrooms and a delicious salad with Olga's homemade (I believe so cos it's very yummy) dressing!! There's no need to dine out at all, truly self-contained. The verandah is east facing, so we got lots of sunshine over the warm summer day. If not for the air conditioning and a light breeze in the evening, we would have been fried. :)
Suggest hosts to consider solar films on the glass doors, may keep the cabin cooler and reduce energy consumption too.

Room Tip: Both cabins is well separated. Either one has great views of the valley and privacy.

Incredibly well sorted from the George Foreman grill on the deck to the reverse cycle air conditioner, wood stove, flat screen tv with integral DVD player, beautiful views, simple but fabulous architecture.
The BBQ we pre ordered was simple and perfect, breakfast was delicious. This weekend was not wanting in anyway. Even the 2 cottages were completely secluded from each other and the house by bush and trees which you would not know from the photos. Would I stay there again ? In a minute.

We found this accommodation to be very well appointed and surpassed only by the relaxing environment and wonderfull views. Sky full of stars at night followed by a magnificent sunrise over the Yarra Valley hills. Would be even better during the winter with a storm coming down the valley. Very private and secluded retreat. Shared an excellent meal in Healesville only a few minutes drive away. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to return.
