Owner description: Healesville Sanctuary, in the heart of the Yarra Valley, is world-renowned as the best place to see Australian wildlife in their natural habitat. Set in a beautiful natural environment, the Sanctuary offers a place for people and animals to reconnect with nature from creek to canopy, and plays a critical role in saving some of the world's most endangered animals. Explore the 70 acre bushland haven to experience close-up encounters with some of Australia's unique and endearing wildlife, including koalas, kangaroos, wombats, emus, dingoes, birds of prey and platypus. Visitors are also free to explore the Australian Wildlife Health Centre, a working vetinary hospital treating over 1500 orphaned, ill or injured wildlife every year. The expert team shares the journey of animal rescue, rehabilitation and release with the Sanctuary's visitors. Don't miss: Spirits of the Sky: A free flight presentation featuring Australian raptors such as the Wedge Tailed Eagle, and colourful parrot species. Tales from Platypus Creek: Come face-to-face with Healesville Sanctuary's most iconic species in a world-first interactive Platypus show. Observe Platypus as they interact with keepers, play in the water and even enjoy having their tummies tickled! Wade with the Platypus: In this world-first, hands-on experience it will be your turn to be the Platypus keeper. You will have the opportunity to step into the shallow water of the 'Platypus play pool' where it's normally the keeper's job to play, frolic, tickle and feed our little furry friends.

“A great day out.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

It's been a very very long time since I last visited Healesville Sanctuary. My trip back was definitely an enjoyable one. Being the middle of winter, it got mighty cold but it's a great day out especially if you have kids.

The animal enclosures were well kept and spacious and the keepers & staff were excellent and super friendly. While it doesn't have as much variety of animals to see compared to traditional "zoos" that's besides the point.

As an Australian I feel very lucky that that we have so many unique & beautiful animals.

The Spirits of the Sky was an amazing display of many magnificent birds. And the kangaroos were not that shy towards us :-) also check out the parrot & bird enclosure to get up close to these beautiful birds.

Overall, an amazing experience. One that someone must try. A very educational experience and well worth the 1 hour drive from Melbourne.

“Lovely experience with the animals”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

My wife & I (both young at heart) love visiting animals and this sanctuary did not let us down. The highlight was the Birds of Prey show but wandering around the animals was a great experience.
My tip. Arrive early and take your time.

Friends from Melbourne took us to the Healesville Sanctuary and we are so glad they did! It was a great afternoon (we could have easily have spent the day) learning about all of the different animals, birds and other creatures native to Australia. Highly recommended for kids and grown ups alike.

“Must see”

Beautiful, well kept zoo. Friendly staff and keepers. Excellent value for money.

We took part in the 'Platypus Encounter' experience. It was well worth it and an unforgettable experience.
The Keepers were full of knowledge and only too happy to share.

Will definitely be back!

“Wasn't blown away”

Rainy day probably didn't help my impression of Healesville Santuary. For what it is, I think its very overpriced.
