This property ticks all the boxes for the country cottage experience. Alex and Wendy have thought of everything. Generous breakfasts, even optional free range eggs , yummy. Beautifully appointed cottages with everything you could want there. We just loved the fire place and waking up to mist on the lake and all of the wildlife. Alex and Wendy have an extensive DVD collection and loads of games to use free of charge. The hot water runs strong and hot which is often not the case when we go away. Loved the huge spa and the generous plush Sheridan towels in the bathroom. Set in an idyllic surround with Goats, Chooks (Free range egg providers) and sheep you just can't believe that you are so close to Melbourne and the Sanctuary and everything that Healsville and the surrounds have to offer. Kids playground and animal feeding available. Can't recommend this place more highly. So close to good restaurants and the wonderful Hedge-end maze just down the road. You can buy discounted tickets to many local attractions and local conveniences. Sanctuary park cottages would suit couples and families alike. Will definitely stay there when ever I am in the region again. Worth the extra price. We looked at a standard motel room very bleak elsewhere for $150 and am so glad we decided on this instead at $198 (July2013) Also they had a stay 3 pay 2 night option so check that out as it would be well worth it.

Room Tip: With families choose the cottage across from the playground. For couples I would recommend the cotta...

My husband and I stayed in the Loft Cottage for 2 nights in June. The cottage is lovely, romantic and full of charm and character.

On the ground level there are a couple of sofas, a tv and DVD player (DVDs available to borrow from the office free of charge) a lovely fireplace (wood, kindling, matches and firelighters all provided), dining table, kitchen (well equipped with oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge, pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, tea/coffee, etc), laundry, toilet, verandah and garden. There is a folder with guest information about the property, as well as things to do / places to eat / etc in the surrounding area which is comprehensive and very helpful.

On the mezzanine level there is a lovely corner spa bath, with some special touches like tea light candles, extra towels and a reverse cycle air conditioner / heater.

Up some more stairs there is the bedroom, with a beautiful, comfortable, four poster bed (with electric blankets for the cold weather - very important!) made up with a beautiful doona and lots of pillows, wardrobe (with extra fluffy blankets) and bathroom (shower, vanity, toilet, toiletries such as soap, shampoo, etc provided).

All areas of the cottage were clean and well decorated and there was plenty of space for the two of us. The log fire and heater kept us nice and warm and the owner of the property had the heater on and fire roaring for us upon our arrival, which was absolutely lovely.

Continental breakfast provisions included cereals, milk, bread and a selection of spreads. There was also an option to have full breakfast provisions provided for $8.00 per person or to purchase eggs laid on site by the resident chickens.

The property is in a fantastic location - just a short drive to Healsville and central to lots of wineries in the Healsville, Yarra Glen and Coldstream areas. The grounds amongst which the cottages are set are beautiful and very well maintained. We loved watching the baby goats run around and enjoyed the opportunity to purchase some feed to go and feed them.

The owner of the property went out of his way to make our stay special and seamless. He helped us to organise a dinner booking at Tokar Estate winery one evening and also helped us to organise a balloon flight. Service was professional, friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back - I would recommend Sanctuary Park Cottages as a fantastic place to stay in the Yarra Valley.

We stayed in a two bedroom cottage with our toddler, everything was fantastic, from the friendly service, cozy accomodation, to the friendly sheep and kids play ground. Location is fantastic too, rihgt next to the wildlife sanctuary, and a short drive into the town centre. Highly highly recomend this place for families or couples, we will deffinitely be back!

Our family group of 17 booked 4 of Sanctuary Park's cottages for two nights recently. We all found the cottages to be roomy, clean and comfortable, with lots of little thoughtful "extras" in the lounge and kitchen.
The highlight for all of us was the setting around the BBQ gazebo area where we came together for a birthday lunch. The gazebo housed a good-sized gas BBQ, a 6 seater picnic table, plus bench seating around the 3 walls. Wendy and Alex, the helpful owners, had also provided an extra trestle table and additional outdoor chairs for our use. As we enjjoyed a leisurely lunch, we were surrounded by the beautiful warm autumn tones of the very well kept grounds, overlooking a small lake, with the mountains in the background. For the more energetic there was the playground to explore and plenty of space to kick the footie.

Sanctuary Park is a great base to explore Healesville and the surrounding Yarra Valley. Owner, Wendy, was very helpful with suggestions on what to see and do and alerting us to what discounts were available. The "What's on this weekend" flyer she provided was really useful too.

If you didn't feel like going too far, there were lots of board games and DVD's available to borrow at no extra charge. Several of our family group took the opportunity to enjoy a long soak in the spa, whilst the more adventurous visited the local HedgeEnd Maze and Mini Golf complex.

We would all definitely stay again and recommend the property as ideal for families,

This is fairly difficult to assess because we went straight from here to adelaide staying at the 5 star sebel playford for $50/night less

However as all accommodation prices in the yarra valley are outrageous I will give an assessment forgetting the price

We stayed in the sunset cottage...it was magnificent...high ceilings made it feel bigger...2 bedrooms, huge bathroom with spa,big lounge/kitchen area, separate washine machine area

The good...I really wanted to take the shower head home with me...Kramer would have been impressed
...We take our own milk, coffee etc as the places we stay are usually miserly...but not
here...a 2 litre bottle of milk, a whole loaf of bread plenty of sachets, of coffee, tea & sugar...
for a few dollars cost to the owners its amazing how welcoming this is

...The towells were very good...I hate going to places where I would have thrown out
the towells about 5 years before

... Sitting on the porch looking at the goats was very tranquil...even barracking for the
Billy with the bad leg to keep up with the herd

...There was actually nothing to complain or moan about or think something could have been done a little better within the cottage...it was exceptional

The not so good...the pool was solar heated...we went on about a 27 degree day...but the pool was still too cold (19 or 20 deg)...maybe it's just me but I like water a bit warmer

In summary...I would stay here again and recommend that you should too

We recently had our wedding at the cottages and it was unbelievable. Sanctuary park is such a unique place to visit. The property with it's mix of cottages all with views of the amazing gardens, lake and local mountains almost stole the show, with everyone who attended completely impressed with the venue. We booked out all of the cottages for the weekend to have our family and bridal parties stay with us which was great and everybody was over the moon with each cottage. For the big day we made the most of the gardens with a picnic theme set up alongside the lake which made for an amazing backdrop for the ceremony and festivities. My new wife and I commandeered the Loft cottage which was the perfect honeymoon suite with its upstairs bedroom and spa which was a great way to wind down the following day.
I honestly could talk all day about how fantastic the venue is but even more deserving of praise is owners Wendy and Alex. They are two of the genuinely most helpful and friendly people you could hope to meet. They were invaluable in helping us to achieve our vision, I can't thank them enough.
I can't wait to revisit to celebrate our anniversaries in the future.

Great place and wonderful hosts, what more could you ask for!

Room Tip: The loft is perfect for couples. The rest sleep more people so are great for any getaway.
