We dined at the Maldon Hotel in June 2016. It is a fairly basic looking hotel. However, on a cold and wintry night and sitting close to a warm fire it was ideal for a casual dinner. The meal and wine were most enjoyable. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Three of us visited during a weekday and were amazed at the bus loads of people who turned up for lunch. Thankfully we arrived before them and placed our order for fish and chips and a beef and pepper pie. Service was excellent and the food was good. There were also senior 'specials' from $12.50. The proprietors have just set up a beer garden so will accommodate more people In the summer. Meantime, there is a large dining room for enjoying comfort food during the winter.

Having eaten here with family and friends a couple of times in the last few months our experiences have been predominantly positive. As with any bistro some meals are better value or quality than others, and this has been our experience. The cheaper lunch specials have been a success a couple of times, with one guest particularly enjoying an old comfort food favourite - curried sausages with mash. I have also had the pleasure of sampling the slow-cooked lamb with gravy and mash, which was fantastic. Bistro staples are all there, fish and chips, garlic prawns etc, but the winners for us have been the more home style comfort foods that will keep us coming back to eat there again and again. The warm, country smile welcome is also always appreciated, in lovely surrounds recently renovated, a great place for a warming lunch as the weather cools down.

We have not been to the hotel in many years. It was great to see that it had modernised to keep up with patrons needs but it was also disappointing to see the changes that gave it a country pub feel of yesteryear gone. Yes I'm a woman of contraditions :) The staff are welcoming and friendly but the food sets this place apart from others. We had children with us and loved the nuggets and chips, followed by icecream. The adults had the following: a steak sandwich (melt in your mouth), crumbed cutlets (lightly crumbed, crunchy and succulent) and 2 had the rib eye. OMG the rib eye. Not only cooked to perfection but tender and juicy. They should sell the mushroom gravy it was divine. This place moved pub grub into restaurant quality food. We'll be back.
