“Prefect cottage for a weekend away!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 February 2014

We are a family of 3, with a 7yo son & we stayed in a 2 bedroom family cottage for 2 nights at the end of January & it was fantastic. We travelled with our friends, a family of 5 & we had cottages right next door to each other which was great for the kids. The cottages were very clean, had comfy beds & plenty of room in the kitchen to cook our own meals & a large lounge for the kids to play & watch TV. We made great use of the big BBQ on our balcony & the kids loved playing in the games room.

We caught lots of yabbies in the dam - a first for all the kids! - played tennis on the court & the kids played on the trampoline many times. The grounds are beautiful & it would be lovely to stay here in any season. We saw lot's of native birds & kangaroos at different times. Unfortunately it wasn't the weather for us to enjoy the swimming pool but it would be nice to use another time.

The hosts are lovely & were very friendly & happy to help out when we needed some garbage bags for our recyclables. There were plenty of plates, glasses, cutlery, cooking utensils & condiments to go around.

I would happily recommend this property to anyone :)

What a fabulous surprise .So relaxing and quite beautiful views and the chalet we stayed in
( Ruby ) was perfect with everything you would require even a BBQ on the decking very hard to
concentrate on the BBQ with the ambiance from the large covered deck.

Exactly what I wanted for a quiet escape in the hills with my partner. Helpful staff, beautiful and quiet location, facilities in the room were perfect. Fireplace, spa, balcony, BBQ, room with a view, kitchen with everything, big fridge. Only drawback was having to do dishes but that's find by me. Would recommend it for a romantic escape

Arrived to a cold reception from a grumpy woman. The writing was on the wall, we should have left then...
We left the place spotless and then received a tax invoice and receipt in the mail 2 weeks later for the amount of $50.00
I rang Christine (grumpy woman who never smiles) to enquire about the additional costs. Now, it gets better. We were charged $50.00 becuase 4 plates were not cleaned to her standards and they were oily...ok, not a problem, my wife is also a perfectionist. We did clean the plates to the best of our ability CONSIDERING THERE WAS LITTLE HOT WATER, 1 CLEANING SPONGE AND NO DISHWASHING LIQUID....
I pity the husband, he seemed like a very decent bloke...stay away from this place, i am reporting them to the tribunal...there are many better alternatives closer to Buller,Mansfield Country Resort and others at a similar price...as per a previous review, this lady definitely needs to undertake a course in public relations..

Room Tip: all the cabins looked like a similar standard..very poorly furnished, 70s style and aesthetically an...

When Guest check in they are requested to fill out and sign a registration form with also specifies the conditions of stay, they sign and agree that if the accommodation facilities are left in extremely dirty and smelly condition they will be charged a $50 cleaning fee.
Sometimes bad reviews are a result of another problem the guest doesn't wish to address!

Our cabin (called Cranky Annies) was lovely - spacious, nicely decorated, spotlessly clean, well maintained, and very comfortable. The kitchen had everything in it that we needed for preparing our own meals and snacks. The bathroom had a jacuzzi and luscious soft towels! The fridge even had fresh milk which i thought was a nice touch.
We made use of the pool - clean and refreshing - and the tennis court, and my brother and his son used nets in the pond to catch yabbies (large prawns?). In the evening, kangaroos gather at the end of the neighbouring paddock! The recreation room / cabin is brilliant too - it has a pool table, its own kitchenette which is ideal if there is a group of you staying, and very comfy seating areas. and as its a short walk down to Lake Eildon, there is plenty to do.
The owners take pride in their cabins and reading through the 'book' left in each cabin, its clear that past guests have taken advantage of them and caused expensive repairs. Thats why they clearly state that guests now are expected to wipe down benches, do their own dishes etc before leaving or they will charge an additional fee. The owners were friendly and courteous to us throughout our stay and even offered to bring in the kid's tents when we were hit by a sudden downpour of rain. i didnt find there 'rules' or them overbearing at all and would definitely stay here again if i am in that area.

Although the views from our cottage were breathtaking, the cottage itself was basic. Clean in appearance generally however the beds including mattresses and bed linen require serious attention as did the lounge suite. Very obviously aged and uncomfortable together with an uncordinated colour scheme throughout the cottage that lacked space for storing for travel necessities. The host hovered around the cottage to ensure "their regulations were adhered to precisley" including moving back all moved furniture and outdoor settings used throughout our stay, to there original position before leaving. A notice on the back of the entrance door stipulates that they will not clean up after you and if they have to (at their discreation) they will charge you to do so. Their approach was arrogent, unfriendly and lacked the ability to communicate in a civil manner. As mature professional adults over 45 year of age with experience in travel our experience at "The Black Sparrow" was seriously mared by the attitude displayed by the host and hostess, contarary to the bragg book displayed in the cottage.

Rules or Rules...unfortunately we, like all other accommodation properties do have rules , mostly they are for the Guests own wellbeing, or that of the next Guest... We also need to ask for Credit card details and require to know who exactly is staying in the accommodation...if for no other reason than to be aware of who we need to look for in an emergency should one happen...sometimes people don't think that they are required to give this information and they react adversely...and if they don't like your reply they let everyone know.
