Burnt Creek Cottages
Reviewed 6 January 2014

We have recently stayed a second time at Burnt Creek Cottages, and loved it. Reasonably handy to Mansfield but far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet. The cottages are well equipped and we find them to be quite comfortable. The wildlife is cheeky and the views…..just stunning!!! Linda, our host, is friendly and obliging. Plenty parking and well worth a visit, even if it is just to relax. We will definitely be returning again soon.

Room Tip: Just book it!!!!!

As usual when we plan these escapades we phoned the owner - Linda, and explained what we wanted. She suggested the Grevillea cottage and we negotiated a rate for a longer stay.

We were delighted when we entered our cottage. Spacious with a king bed and a kitchen that had a full compliment of spotless cooking equipment (not that we cooked - more of that later). But the standout feature were large windows in the lounge and bedroom that looked across a valley to one of the arms of the Eildon Weir. There was a balcony that likewise offered the same spectacular views. Our cottage was the newest and had very good quality furnishings. The TV in the bedroom was something not often found in cottage accommodation.

The resort offers 5 cottages poised on a ridge. Some cottages face west and some east. All offer great views, quietness and privacy. No banging doors up the corridor, noisy laughing from other balconies or stiletto heels click clacking on the floor above. Just peaceful silence.

We had initially planned to dine out on a couple of evenings, but such was the comfort of the cottage that we dined in every night, mainly on meals based around dips, antipasto, cheeses, cold meats and sea food (and the obligatory bottle of wine). This was all supplemented with some great bread (Cob Loaves) from the High Country Bakery in Mansfield (this is on the West side of the Mansfield bakery in the main street of Mansfield). All enjoyed on the balcony with a background of the spectacular views over the valley.

Linda was helpful and offered some great advice on some 4WD tracks to explore (local knowledge required) and we had some some fun exploring these tracks.

We visited in mid summer and had great weather, although I suspect you will need to rug up for trips to the balcony in the high country winter.

Probably the most stunning vistas I have encountered in years or regional and rural travels. Cottages are so well equipped you could stay indefinitely, with stove, washing machine, TV, DVD etc etc, and were very clean and comfortable, if a tad dated. Easy parking and while feeling far removed from the madding crowd, are great striking distance to town and the alpine attractions.

The tennis court had just suffered from a bovine break in and was a little worse for wear, but it was nice to be surrounded by happy looking farm animals and abundant wildlife.

We were tarvelling with extended family so booked two cottages and were thrilled with both.

Room Tip: Our cottage was facing south East, but all the cottages seemed to have equally stunning aspects
