Interesting little motel.
I checked in and it appeared to be a smallish family business, I could be wrong on that point, but that's certainly how it felt. If it was my property I'd be selling it as a comfy good value place to stay, instead though it seemed to be pulled in every direction marketing wise.
Onto the stay...
We stayed for a weekend (2 nights) of which it rained one day, we thoroughly enjyed Mornington though and the rain really didn't stop us doing much.
The motel seems to just miss out on a lot of things for our money.
Firstly, we were drive up guests, meaning we drove in and asked if there was a room available for the weekend and then when there was discussed price etc. We had already looked online at a few places and this was one of our choices. To our great surprise when we asked for a price we were quoted approximately 10% more than the online price, this was surprising as the online price was not only cheaper, but the motel would then have to pay a comission out of that cheaper price!
With money not being a great concern, we mentioned the cheaper price online, but agreed to pay the higher rate - again, it felt like a family establishment and we wenre't going to try and dupe them out of a few bucks.
Next thing we hit the sack - we'd had a BIG day and planned to sleep in quite a bit, but there was no " DO NOT DISTURB" sign to hang on our door, so being the clever people we are we made our own out of a piece of cardboard and pens we had with us (couldn't find pen and paper in the room) and stuck it on the door - It worked a treat, we slept til midday with no interruptions. We expected this would mean we would not have the room serviced, but when we came back from lunch it had been serviced thoroghly. Excellent. At this point I'll add the bed was super comfy - I can't say exactly why, but I got as good a sleep as I do when I sleep in my own bed.
Now to the surpises...
*As you enter the room there is a significant sign urging you to remove wet or dirty shoes, but there is no-where (other than the carpet) to sit those dirty shoes.
*The clock, phone, bedside lamps etc were all unplugged - perhaps to save on electricity?
*No PayTC channels.
*Reception was never attended anytime we tried, including the middle of the day, and 9am in the morning, there was a sign saying it was open from 8:30am, yet when we checked out at 9am it was empty and locked, so we simply left our key. A couple of times we went to ask about local attractions in the middle of the day and while the door was open there was no-one about, even after we rang the bell and waited about ten minutes.
*There is a massive sign advertising the motel has wireless internet, but one you check in you find it is not complimentary (actually quite expensive).
*Showers were very inconsistent in temperature, you'd just get it right, and it'd change again. We were told this was because the property uses instantaneous hot water systems?
*The aircon is crazy... There is a detailed instruction sheet saying to cool the room set the temp high (to 28) and to heat the room set the temp low (to 16). We tried this and it was bunk. it was hot, so we tried setting it down low as you would instinctively do and it worked a treat - again, we assume this was to save money - Photo of the info sheet will be uploaded.
Overall a few minor things made us not love this motel - it could be greatly improved with very little effort, and we might return here next time we are in Mornington.
