“Very rude staff & overpriced”
Reviewed 9 June 2014 via mobile

Wish i had read reviews before going, extremely rude staff in the restaurant, when enquiring about a table were made to feel like we were putting them out & they were doing us a favour. We had a warmer reception in the wine tasting shop & after purchasing some wine we enquired about using a toilet, we were told it was back in the restuarant area and when we went back believe it was the manager that made quite a fuss/scene about us asking to use it in front of other staff saying they were cleaning & closing up and directed us to a portaloo in the carpark!

The 'guest' did not dine at the cafe and they did not enquire about a table. They did though try to gain access to the locked cafe some 30 minutes after closing time (approximately 5:30 p.m. on the Queens Birthday weekend). They did request to use the bathroom and it was explained to them that the toilets were unavailable for the next ten minutes as the cleaner was cleaning and mopping the toilets and they were directed to the cellar door toilet facilities. They did make quite a scene and appeared to be under the influence. They returned some ten minutes later ranting about the unacceptable portable toilets that the cellar had installed for the weekend. The cleaning had finished and were safe to use at this stage and they were given access.
I was the manager present and I had these conversation with the group of 'ladies'

“Queens Bthdy W/e”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

Wanted to try Tuck's Ridge seeing it's next door to Montalto (been many times). Got told TR is rustic! Arrive and got seated with a wine list very promptly. New menu today we were told. Room is lacking a bit of lustre but the menu and finally the tasting of the dishes made up for it. Place was busy and very friendly staff made us welcome. Service 7/10 dishes 7.5/10 .Price fair. Room loud. Not a worry though. Go back???? Maybe.

“Good food, nice wine”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

We stopped in with friends and tasted some wines at the cellar door, then popped into the adjoining restaurant and had lunch. It was a grey day but the expansive view across the undulating vineyards was still engaging; the rustic building of timber, stone and iron is welcoming and warm. Both the guy in the cellar door and the waiter in the restaurant were really good value - friendly, knowledgeable and excellent at what they do (it seems we were fortunate not to have the rude waitress described in so many other reviews). The food was marvellous - expertly cooked, beautifully presented and - most important!! - seriously tasty. Among our group we sampled a rich and delicious vegetable curry, a fabulously colourful black pearl barley and vegetable risotto and the confit of duck. Good coffee, and wonderfully tangy lime tarts for dessert were a fitting end to a lovely meal. Rather pricy but for the standard of the food and service, reasonable value.

“Beautiful views and food presentation but let down on taste”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

Nestled amongst the vines at Red Hill, the Tuck's Ridge café is in a beautiful location with really lovely views. We were there on a cool Autumn day but it was still pleasant enough to sit outside. The waiting staff were friendly but casual, but didn't go out of their way to make us feel welcome. I actually forgot to order wine with our meal so I had to take a walk inside to ask for some as their were no staff waiting outside.

We had Marinated Mount Zero Olives as a starter followed by a grilled prawn dish (for my wife) and the Pork Belly (for myself).

The food presentation was great with the dishes really looking well thought out and with a quirky kind of edge to them. Unfortunately, however, they really lacked flavour with the Pork Belly itself being relatively bland and matched with a smoked fig that overpowered the taste of anything else when eaten (even cut up in tiny bits).

The pricing was in the higher range ($35+ for a main) which would have been okay but that kind of price tag normally comes with the expectation of much better food taste and overall service.

On the positive the wine at Tuck's Ridge was great - in particular we felt the Sangiovese was a winner!

“Overpriced and rude waitress”
Reviewed 3 March 2014 via mobile

Had lunch here on Saturday, this place is overpriced and I found menu selection very poor!
Pretentious but could not deliver quality food, all four of us felt flavours didn't match and were disappointed with our meal. My chicken was undercooked but waitress dismissed my complaint all together.
Would not waste my time when there are so many other spectacular restaurants in the area
