“Spectacular May Wedding @ Lindenderry”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

We recently had our wedding at Lindenderry. We had an amazing day, as did all of our guests. We had people from both interstate and overseas, who all complimented us on the venue and noted how accommodating the staff were.

Having our wedding photography around the hotel grounds was wonderful. The vineyards were beautiful and the gardens had a spectacular array of autumn colours even in late May.

Not only were the staff were very friendly and accommodating for the evening of the wedding, but they made those guests staying for the entire weekend feel very welcome the entire time, even with another wedding in full swing the following day.

We have also had the pleasure of dining and staying at Lindenderry prior to our wedding, so we can highly recommend it for a relaxing weekend away on the Peninsula. A few metres from the hotel is the cellar door with wood fired-pizzas and lovely Estate wines for tasting, or head out for a drive to the multitude of local wineries & eateries in the surrounding area, not to mention the spectacular bay views just down the road at Arthurs Seat Hill.

Highly recommend a visit or two at least! It was really excellent :)

My husband and I stayed at Lindenderry recently, for a private celebration. We have stayed there previously and were pleased to be back, having a very nice time as usual.

Lindenderry is not a 5 star hotel but a beautiful country house with wonderful facilities and the most delightful staff. We are not interested in the glitz and glamour found in city hotels which is often so false - it is the warmth, understated and beautiful approach that draws us back to Lindenderry time and time again.

Delightful lounges with open fires (reading with a glass of wine through the day), spacious rooms (ours opened to the gardens and was bigger than any hotel suite), lovely food all through the day and night whilst the staff are a delight.

What impresses us are the grounds. As a house guest you have access to the sweeping lawns, lake with dicks and geese, pond and even an old orchard, all beautifully manicured and maintained by the gardener. Walking through there you could be in another world, so peaceful. This is why we come to Lindenderry, for that real peace and quiet and exclusivity.

Our favorite time to visit is when it is cooler, because of the fires. I understand at times the staff can be busy, but at no time have any of the staff there been less than friendly and accommodating to our needs. Even the housekeeping staff, they are almost like family.

We recommend people go to Lindenderry, not to be waited on hand and foot and treated like a number in a city hotel, but to enjoy a genuine lovely experience which seems harder to find these days. Certainly we look to going back.

Room Tip: Garden Room

We decided to spoil ourselves with a weekend away and chose Lindenderry as we had been before.

The Staff
On arrival , there was no one at reception. 3 people approached us and told us to wait for the receptionist. When she arrived, she never greeted us, never smiled and never moved from the chair she sat in. We were given a room next to the maids cleaning quarters. There was dirty linen sacks (at least 15 or more) stacked in the corridor. We bumped into the room main several times in our 24 hours there and each time we were given a glaring look and she never smiled, very uncomfortable.

The room
For a 5 star hotel this was very basic. Very clean but no character, just clinical Motel room standard. Beds were small, TV was small. We were not shown to our room, and there were no instructions as to how to use the air conditioning of TV. The room was freezing on arrival.

The facilities
Pool heated to 27! Really it was freezing ! and so was the Spa! We were not told these facilities were not working when we booked in. The Sauna was the only facility functioning. The spa was closed and there was no Massage therapist available. The games room was lovely but there was no music and again no way to get the TV to work.

Restaurant
Saving grace of the night, the food was fabulous and we had a lovely evening. The wine list for a winery was sparce and limiting, and overly expensive. The cheapest by the glass was $10 and the cheapest bottle was $68. We are wine drinkers and a decent wine that would cost around $35 in Dan Murphys was over $80 on this wine menu.

Other Comments
Ask before you book. There was a wedding function on the day we visited despite being a Friday. The wedding took place in the corridor between our room and the pool! It was awkward for both parties! The hotel staff were more interested in the Wedding guests than other guests.

We tried to order pre-dinner drinks and were told the restaurant was not open yet and they were too busy with the Wedding. We did finally manage to get a glass of wine in the games room but it was not offered, we had to attend reception twice to get any attention.

Summary
We do not mind paying to be spoilt and pampered for a weekend away, but it is upsetting when you pay this sort of money and you are let down in so many ways. Will not be returning here.

The Irish lady at reception on checkout was lovely and we gave written and verbal feedback which we felt she was genuinely upset that we did not feel the hotel lived up to the standards expected. She is a credit to Lindenderry and should be held as a standard for all their staff.

I have waited 2 business days to give Lindenderry the chance to respond to our verbal and written feedback given on Checkout but we have recieved no response.

Werribee Mansion is so much better

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms are tiny and sparse. Garden rooms are lovely but very expensive.

We paid $320 per night for a basic room. The room was just this, basic. It was clean and neat but that's where the positives end when looking at a room at that price. The bathroom floor felt like it was going to fall out under us. It was largely disappointing.

Room details - bed reasonably small for the price, small TV (we didn't use it), doors don't automatically close behind you, onsite restaurant is not very good (see separate review).

The complex probably needs a mix of updating and price reduction. It won't last long trading on being in the beautiful setting of Red Hill.

On a positive note, the lady on the front desk in the evening and then the morning was lovely. She is a credit to the establishment.

For reference, we were in room 120. The bed was reasonably hard.

My wife and I visited Lindenderry after a day wine tasting in the Mornington region. We made a last minute decision to stay in the area after being thoroughly soaked through by the rain at a cellar door close by. What can I say - the property is stunning!! The staff were also only too happy to accommodate our every request and nothing was too ever much trouble. The rooms here are magnificent and reminiscent of a large guest house with a myriad of rooms and common areas - each equipped with comfy lounges and open fire places that warm ever corner of the property!! Our room had quaint cosy furnishings, a huge King size bed with soft linen and an abundance of cushions. The mini bar has to be one of the best I have seen stocked in any of my travels. The jewel in the crown for my wife and I however was the presence of our very own fire place in the room stocked and ready to ready to go (just what the doctor ordered after being soaked through). The grounds at Lindenderry are breathtaking - especially as the heavy fog settled over the vineyard that was sprawled over the hillside in the evening we arrived! Do yourself a favour if you ever visit the Mornington region on cold a windy day... Book yourself a room with a fireplace, grab a bottle of wine from the onsite cellar door (ask the friendly & knowledgeable staff for their recommendation) and retire to an open fire, cheese platter and good company in the comfort of your own room. We didn't dine in the restaurant however it looked amazing. The cellar door wasn't open on the day we departed so I couldn't stock up on a box or two to take back to Melbourne with us. Never mind - We will be back - this time for longer!! Thank you to all the team for making our unexpected stay so special.

Room Tip: Get a room with a fire place - you won't be dissapointed.

My husband and I attended a wedding at Lindenderry and booked a room for both ourselves and my daughter and son-in-law (they reduced the price for them as they were in the wedding party) The price of our room was over $400 with breakfast. When we attended the wedding on the grounds there was no one to direct us to where the wedding was and when i asked i received a half hearted vague point in a direction not impressed...the wedding itself was lovely set right next to a lake but there where no chairs there for the elderly in fact there where only two bench seats it was a disgrace...food was average to say the least...now to the room for the price i expected a five star instead it was a three star and the noise was incredible i could hear everything that people where saying both in the rooms next door and all the way down the passage I did not get one wink of sleep even though we had requested rooms far away from the wedding guests...breakfast the next morning again average for the price very disappointed in this venue

Room Tip: Dont bother unless you enjoy paying through the noise for average quality rooms and service
