“OMG the best steak sandwich ever!”
Reviewed 5 August 2014 via mobile

Just left this friendly country pub having had lunch with my sister and husband . The best steak sandwich I've ever had! My sisters fish and chips with a pale ale batter that was crisp and tasty. My husbands pulled pork sandwich was equally tasty and the side salads crisp and fresh with a nice light dressing. Topped off with great friendly service -this place is a great way to enjoy fab food and good country hospitality.

I really enjoyed the Boobs Bikes and Bubbles package myself and 8 friends did over the weekend. We had a ball. Accommodation was clean and warm and welcoming. Seven of us stayed in the Stables Suite which was really comfortable. Some of us shared a room but we really like each other so that was part of the fun. We could not get over how fantastic a deal we were getting with fabulous food, massage, voucher for a goregous shop called Passionflora and fantastic lunch at Pickled sisters at Cofields winery. The beds were comfortable and all clean and even electric blankets on beds which we didn't need as weather was great. We liked the easy going feel of the hotel and would defintely return for another trip. I will be recommending to all my friends for a girls weekend away and will be wanting to come with them again :-)

Over night stay to go to Tuileries restaurant, this a cheaper option than staying at the very comfortable Tuileries (also recommend) but savings can go towards dinner.
I like the charm of old hotels, high ceilings, bygone days grandeur, creaking stairs, bar down below for evening tipple etc. This has all that but unfortunately it needs a good injection of money I think. Very helpful lady there was excellent but overworked I think, a nice guest lounge upstairs but disappointingly the large balcony upstairs overlooking the street is closed a full of old rubbish; this needs to be cleaned and made accessible to really improve the place.
Unfortunately we found the room and ensuite not that clean either, including spider webs, which I did pass on to them so hopefully that has changed.

Room Tip: There are only a couple of rooms with ensuites I think. The from room is better.

Enjoyed a very pleasant stay at this rustic hotel. The bedroom was spacious and the bed very comfortable. We did not have an ensuite but the bathrooms down the corridor were clean with good water pressure. There was a lovely log fire down in the main bar and another comfortable lounge to retreat to upstairsThe staff could not have been more helpful. The hotel is well situated in the main St of Rutherglen.t

Room Tip: A little tired but excellent value.

Although the hotel is being renovated and looked closed, there was a good lively feel inside the pub, and service was excellent. They have a good selection of local wines by the glass if you have already been warn out tasting all day. The food is of good standard for a pub and we were entertained by the dancing in the lounge, while we sat back in the comfy lounge chairs and enjoyed our complimentary dessert of sticky date pudding and our glass of port.

We've just returned from a girls weekend away on the Boobs Bikes and Bubbles package,
The value for money can't be questioned - accommodation, massage, lunch, dinner & voucher- BUT ...
there is a big BUT...
The accommodation at The Victoria Hotel is very different to what we expected. The hotel has definitely seen better days and is in the midst of substantial renovation/patching work. Whilst the host, Sarah, was warm and welcoming and couldn't do more unfortunately that state of the accommodation was a huge shock to us all. (Another group arrived and left without even checking in!)
This is really unfortunate as the concept is great and the partners at the wineries, restaurant & local shop are all so friendly and accommodating BUT we didn't expect tired/school dorm type accommodation and a shared bathroom that didn't appear to be cleaned despite many guests staying for the weekend.
We made the most of it but wouldn't recommend this as an indulgent girls weekend - it's more of a hostel style weekend with very basic shared accommodation & a bathroom shared by all guests on that floor!
It would be better if Rutherglen could offer a choice of accommodation to accompany the BB&B package that suited people's budgets - we would have paid more for a better level of accommodation.
Having said this the cycling was great fun, the dinner was excellent, the winery lunch & tasting was awesome (thank you Cofield!), the massage was bliss and the voucher for Passionflora was fabulous (we were all spoilt for choice!)!
Sadly though it was difficult to relax & chill out and our beds were shocking.
I hope this hotel is revived and brought back to its former glory - but in the meantime be aware of what you're booking.

Had such a great couple of nights at the hotel and our time in Rutherglen was a real highlight of our holiday to Australia.

We arrived late but received a very warm welcome all the same. We dropped off our stuff and headed into the bar for some delicious drinks from a very well stocked bar and some advice and tourist info.

Well equipped with maps and ideas, we had a brilliant day cycling, enjoying beautiful countryside and fantastic food and drink.

That evening we enjoyed a superb meal in the restaurant - we only wished we could have managed more but the portions were generous as well as yummy.

The room we stayed in was very nice and comfortable - and enormous. It would have been extremely good value for a family and was very good for the two of us.

We enjoyed every moment and would be very keen to go back to this lovely haven in a beautiful part of the world.
