“'Top Notch' for adults and the pooch”
Reviewed 1 January 2014

We stayed with Chris and Charles for five nights including Christmas and Boxing Day. We had the Garden Suite. The accommodation is superior in terms of cleanliness and furnishings, yet at the same time very comfortable and homely. The treats for the humans and of course, Phoebe the pooch were greatly welcomed on our arrival. The shaded garden area was perfect for our ageing pooch and ourselves on a hot summrs day. There was nothing we needed to ask for, as everything we required was provided, right down to towels for the pooch. Chris is a beautiful host and like Charles, is very knowledgeable about the area. Even a request for a picnic lunch on Christmas Day was no problem at all and there was more than enough lovely prepared food for us to enjoy lunch by the Murray River. Charles is a 'Master of Breakfasts' - whatever you request it seems will be provided for your palette. The accommodation is in a beautiful part of Rutherglen and the swimming pool and spa are tops and we used this every day. It is obvious that a lot of planning, hard work, experience and love went into the making of Must Love Dogs Bed and Breakfast. The thing that stood out was how much Chris and Charles enjoy what they do. We have already recommended Must Love Dogs Bed and Breakfast to our friends who have dogs and we will most definitely go back there. Sue, Dave & Phoebe

Room Tip: We had the Garden Suite - beautiful shaded garden area to keep cool.

What a fab concept Must Love Dogs B&B. No worries for Flash our greyhound, a whole garden to himself, such luxury. Inside everything is clean, no funny smells, a nice homely place.

After having enjoyed two days with luscious breakfasts (eat till you drop really, no need for eating much else the rest of the day) clearly Charlie could serve up anything. For our last day we felt like having good ol' porridge in the morning. Though which b&b would serve you poor-mans food porridge for breakfast? We had to ask anyways. Chris and Charlie were quite delighted to fulfil our request. We left it a bit in the dark how we like our porridge so as not to influence the recipe. Though it might seem porridge is easy to make, and it is really, styles vary wildly and I'd have to say porridge Charlie style is spot on, we loved it: perfectly simple, perfect consistency, that nice thin layer covering the top keeping the inside piping hot, it was delicious and the perfect start of the morning. We highly recommend this breakfast, especially before taking a long trip on the road.

We had a great couple of nights with Chris and Charles at Must Love Dogs. They both have a way of making you feel instantly welcome and at home. The dog friendly design has been very well thought out, with enclosed yards fenced well enough to stop the big ones jumping out and the small ones burrowing out. Charles cooked us a fantastic dinner on the first night and Chris followed with a huge and delicious dessert. Breakfast was also excellent both mornings. We also appreciated the list of dog-friendly venues and the vouchers with offers at a couple of the dog-friendly wineries. Rutherglen is a beautiful little town and you could easily spend a few days sampling everything the region has to offer. The entire experience is highly recommended.

This is a wonderful idea as so difficult to leave our fur children at home. Chris & Charles made us & Gatsby so very welcome. It was a home away from home. Beautiful accommodation - bedroom with ensuite, sitting room with tea coffee & treats. Muscat too! Very roomy fully fenced garden for us & Gatsby to enjoy sitting outside with a lovely bottle of the local drop. The breakfast were fantastic & restaurants all in walking distance. Chris & Charles kindly offer to dog sit too & also provide information of restaurants & wineries where our fur children will be welcome. We will definitely return & look forward to seeing Chris & Charlie & their fur kids again next year. These are a treasure couple! Thank you, thank you.

I've always been reluctant to book accommodation with my dog, so we usually camp with her instead. The reason for this is that in the past we've found the quality of accommodation, where dogs are allowed, has not been great. 'Must Love Dogs' is proof that you can cater for dogs and still provide high quality accommodation for people. As for the Chris and Charlie, they were so welcoming and such wonderfully warm people that you come away feeling you've made new friends. One thing I will never forget: we decided to eat out at the Victoria Hotel on our first night (we were eating in the next night) and left our dog behind, in the yard (she's normally an outside dog). When we got back, we found her inside happily watching 'Beauty and the Geek' ( she is an ex show dog, but I thought we had 'doggified' her more than that! :-)) . As she had fretted, Chris and Charlie had paid her a visit, calmed her down and put the TV on for her. You can't ask for better service.

All the meals were fantastic, though a word of warning - you might find it really difficult to find room to try one of Parker's Pies. Maybe buy some to take home as you leave as they are great too!

Oh, and if you do make it to Must Love Dogs, take a visit to the Victoria Hotel and play stick with resident dog Indie (border collie) in the beer garden - and yes, you can take your dog there too.

I recently stayed with my dog for two nights and both of us were treated like alfa dogs. Chris and Charles spoiled us with great food, special home made treats and their friendship. Charles is an excellent cook and I highly recommend his special dinner. I'm planning the next visit already with our dog friends to catch up with a promised pan cakes. Chris and Charles are really serious about giving their guests (and furguests) great time.

This was our second visit and as enjoyable as the first. Good to be able to take the dog and not have to worry. Nice surrounds and able to sit in the garden as a group and enjoy a bottle of local wine. Chris and Charles are fantastic and the breakfasts enough for the day. Close to town so walk out for dinner. Would highly recommend a visit for those wanting to take the pet.
