A group of 9 adults and 6 children, we recently stayed at Red Rock Lodge for the long weekend.
Red Rock Lodge is actually 2 houses (East and West), mirror images of each other side by side, each with 4 bedrooms (1 with ensuite), a kitchen, 2 lounge rooms (open fire in one, wood burner in the other), opening out onto a shared BBQ/patio area and overlooking a swimming pool. The houses are a little way out of Sunbury to the north.
The surrounding countryside is full of horses, with birds singing in the trees and a sense of peace (although the property can be directly under the flight path for Melbourne airport!).
There was more than enough space for the kids to run around, and to be far enough from the adults at night for cries to be heard, but for late evening chatting to not disturb them. However, some of the adults in the group did mention that they thought the walls were paper thin, and didn't sleep too well.

The house has pretty much all you would need - linen is provided, and the beds are comfy. The heating really heats up the house (it was very cold the time we were there), and there is wood supplied for the open fires. The kitchen has all the equipment you could need to cook up a storm.
The carpets were a little stained however, and the furniture a little tired ... the property as a whole felt a little in need of an update, but this was designed to be a functional place to stay rather than luxury. And functional it did well.

The owner came and gave the kids a ride on a lovely little pony called Buddy who was so patient with the littlies hopping on and off, but unfortunately a fox had recently eaten all the chickens so there was none of that for them to see.

The house is priced based on the number of people staying, with a separate rate for kids. The only disappointing thing was that shortly after booking we wished to change the number of guests (this was a large group of friends plus associated kids and things change), and seemingly the owner would not adjust for the people who were no longer coming, which with the notice given, felt a little harsh (I wasn't the organiser, but this was purported to be the case). Guests wishing to stay would be wise to be absolutely certain that all who are coming are committed.

I'd ideally mark this place between average and very good - but I had to make a choice. People reading this review should note that it's not a luxury retreat, but it is functional, and worked well for the group that we had there. There is NOTHING close by though, so additional supplies or eating out etc does require driving into Sunbury.

Room Tip: Each house has 4 rooms - One master with ensuite, room with a double and a single bed in it, a doubl...

This place is such a secret gem, TripAdvisor doesn't know it exists! I hope I'm doing Heidi a favour by posting this review and getting the name of Red Rock Lodge a bit more known.
I booked this on advice from a friend who was getting married, we were travelling out to Sunbury from Melbourne and needed a night's stay. There was no problem about only staying one night, and people coming and going, as happened with friends arriving at different times to us.
Red Rock is a farm outside of Sunbury, and has a 4 bed cottage it rents out. The cottage has two lounges, a large very generously stocked kitchen (incl. farm delights such as fresh eggs) and fridge, all complimentary and included in the nightly tariff (a bargain $65 a night per room). There is a heated pool out back, which we never had time to use sadly, bbq area too, and we were delighted by the peace of the place. Ok, it's a little out of town, we failed to get a cab one afternoon and had to drive into town instead (although Heidi did offer, the hostess) but it was such a bonus to be out that far come the morning. Not a sound woke us up - including our friends who managed to cook up a big breakfast, pack and leave before we awoke! The beds were that comfy. Disappointed to leave so soon, we'll be back another day for sure, there were all the little touches you don't get anywhere else to appreciate (thank you/come back again text from Heidi) and chooks running wild!
A lovely place, just don't tell anyone about it........
