Great place to escape the hustle & bustle & take the time to 'smell the roses'.
Gorgeous accommodation however the room was probably the smallest we have ever stayed in anywhere and first time we have struck a room without a bar fridge. Traffic jam with just two of us - trying to walk around the bed to get to the bathroom! Having said that, the bed & pillows were very comfortable and it was nice to be able to just walk out of the balcony door and straight down to the peace & tranquility of the river. Relaxed in one of the lounge areas before dining in at Oscar's experiencing delicious food & great service. Staff very friendly.

We stayed one friday night in this beautifully renovated historic accommodation. We'd specifically requested the best river view room available in the booking made several months ago though someone may've missed the memo as we were given a lovely large non river view room (number 5) with an average sized bathroom. It was however no trouble at all to swap to a river view room as luckily it wasn't fully booked. We loved our slightly smaller room (number 10) with a slightly larger bathroom and direct balcony access to stroll down to the Yarra River. The medium-sized oak tree blocks views for a few rooms on the river side but with some smart lowest branch tree-lopping, this magnificent tree can be retained and river views further opened up. The classy well heated rooms are thoughtfully and elegantly furnished with dimmable lights, great firm pillows and nods to art deco. A small bar fridge wasn't necessary as the restaurant is magnificent (if necessary I'd suggest installing a bar fridge in the bottom of the closet space and placing a bench over it to best maximise space). The delicious degustation dinner was sensational as was the cooked breakfast- fresh DIY juice is an excellent idea. Wine list knowledge i.e. location, its basic notes and being able describe the components of the dishes are fundamental as more senior staff aptly demonstrated. Although our room wasn't the largest, there was still space for 2 bedside tables even though one bed side table had been removed. I'd suggest reinstating the bedside table in room 10, unless a single traveller is staying, as I ended pushing the bed across flush with the wall and used a chair for bedside paraphernalia. I've tried to be as constructive as possible with my feedback as this is a really lovely place with such friendly and helpful staff, a gorgeous location and beautiful rooms- with a few minor tweaks it would have been absolutely faultless. Oscar's represents great value for money with professional, friendly service in a beautiful part of regional Victoria. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: All rooms are of a high standard. The fire escape plan gives you a good idea of more desirable rooms...

We stayed here Saturday night, was a very pleasant place to be. Reception staff were helpful and friendly, they have two lovely lounges, one with an open fire to sit in with a drink and to relax. The room itself was small but it was very clean and modern as was the bathroom. The bed and pillows were so comfortable and the room kept a nice temperature overnight, there was a nice balcony outside the room which was nice to sit and listen to the river running by with lovely views. The restaurant was amazing, i ordered a Vegetarian dish and it was probably the best vegetarian meal i have had in years. The one negative is there is no fridge in the room so you would need to bring your own esky.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is as secluded from other guests as possible as it can be a little noisy at time...

We just came back from our trip to Yarra Valley and rangers. We couldn't choose better place to stay.
The hotel was just fantastic, lovely staff (from Reception to Restaurant and Housekeeping), lovely art deco decoration, wonderful river views, so clean and so welcome. The food at the restaurant was delicious.
We could listen the kookaburras in the morning, see the wild rabbits and lots of ducks around the hotel.
The only thing I could say in "negative" is that our room didn't have a fridge on it :(
We are going to come back!!!

Check in was troublesome, no record of booking so had to postpone weekend away for two couples until two weeks later. Rooms are tiny and there is no bar fridge, so best to take a cooler to keep drinks cold. We had two rooms, they were both very very clean. The shower in our room leaked at the base which had resulted in soggy carport and meant that the door to the toilet didn't shut because the wood was so swollen. There was an odour due to the wet carpet too. Staff competency varied greatly, at times we felt like we were in an episode of "Fawlty Towers". The woman who worked in the breakfast room was efficient and very friendly ensuring there was plenty of food for all of the guests. Would we stay here again? I think not and I doubt I would feel confident to hold a significant celebration here, I doubt believe staff would cope with a large group.

Hello Downunder1953,
Thank you for your feedback, we apologise that your stay was not to your expectation. Thank you for advising us on the water leak which we have actioned. We were aware of the checking in issue for the first date and hope that the FREE buffett breakfast added to your Flybuys voucher booking and for the extra person was in some way appreciated. At this stage there is no bar fridge however in the future we will be installing fridges in most rooms.

We hope you are able to visit us again in the future to see the changes we have made. Please contact me personally. Regards Joanne Tate

Four of us did the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail, fabulous ride through the most picturesque scenery. The highlight at the end of the trail was our accommodation at the Best Western, rooms were well appointed with a balcony overlooking the river and lush green gardens. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We ate in the restaurant, excellent food and presentation. Facilities in the hotel were lovely with a balcony bar looking out towards the river. A really enjoyable experience and good value for money. We shall certainly be visiting again.

Room Tip: We had a balcony room overlooking the river, spacious and lovely.

We spent just one night and wished that we could have stayed there longer. The view of the river and mountains were beautiful and the furnishings in the lounges were classic. Breakfast was a good spread too. Room was clean but a little small relative to the huge bathroom. Will definitely stay there again. However, beware if you intend to use GPS to find the place cos we got lost using it.
