We called into the Mountain View Hotel for lunch while on a drive up the King Valley. It was a Wednesday and not much else was open, but boy are we glad we decided to eat here. We sat inside as it had just started to rain, and there was a large group of women just being served their lunches. Their meals all looked good so we decided to go all out and have a full lunch rather than the tapas and small dishes also on offer. Kev ordered the Wagyu Beef Lasagne which also came with garlic bread, whilst I ordered the lamb rump. We were not disappointed with our selections. My meat was tender and well cooked except for a small piece right in the middle which was a little too rare for my liking, but my veggies were delish and the ratatouille sauce was YUM yum yum. Kev's lasagne must have been good because he was almost licking the plate at the end. The serves were generous but still looked attractive on the plate. There was a good wine and beer (Australian and German) selection as well. We plan to take our adult children there for lunch when we are next up here in July.

You may think by the name of the hotel you will get mountain views but you don't. DON'T let that stop you from going there to have a great meal & fine local wines with great service.

We had a terrific dinner here during our stay in Whitfield. The food was great and our waitress was a lot of fun and attentive. The wine list had a number of the local wines available. It was a very pleasant evening outside...it would have been nice to "dine al fresco", but all of the outside tables were taken. No matter...the inside seating was comfortable as well. Recommended!

Our first visit was pure luck - along the lines of "Why don't we see what the pub offers?" The answer is that the pub offers great food, stylishly presented and at very reasonable prices. On our second visit with interstate friends we had beetroot cured salmon and the pork and rabbit terrine , both of which had salad and flavourings that totally complimented the dish. For mains the slow cooked lamb had our visitors' taste buds going into overdrive. The other serves of steak and roast chicken were beautifully cooked and complimented by perfectly cooked seasonal vegetables.
The staff are friendly even when they are flat out busy and it is obvious they get satisfaction from your enjoyment of their food.

We stopped by here on our way to Wangaratta for a Saturday lunch and thought about staying the night in one of the pub's rooms. It's a pleasant spot, amongst gum trees and close to the King Valley wineries, the food was good and reasonably priced … but the on that day at least, the pub was patronised by a loud pushy bogans, which made the experience less than pleasant. There was a queue for food and drink orders as a group of bikers had come in all at once; that was fine, the bikers were polite and even apologised to the people behind them for the wait. It finally came for my turn to order, when a bogan woman walked straight in, pushed in and ordered her drinks. The person serving should have noticed I was waiting but went and served the woman who pushed in. I wasn't going to make an issue of it as the woman was with a group of loud quite intimidating men. It was extremely annoying … although the pub can't help the type of people that patronise it, I think that on a busy weekend they should have more than one person at the bar serving. Totally put us off from staying the night so we moved on after lunch.
