“The secret is out - Hargreaves Hill Brewing Company”
Reviewed 29 March 2012

Prior to this, our first visit, we had read some reviewers rave about their Monday Foodie Nights. So we were there a few Monday's ago and so very glad we were! On offer that evening was their Fish Pie paired with a mysterious white wine - the friendly and gracious hostess insisted that their Fish Pie was famous. It was humongous but I finished every bit of it like a wolf. We also had the Chargrilled zucchini and fresh herb salad, the Thyme and rosemary crusted lamb rack, and the fish of the day. All of which were good. We tried their paddle of beer sampler and our faves seemed to be the Pale Ale, ESB and the Stout. Because we had just landed in Melbourne that noon from a red-eye flight, we left before finding out what the white wine was but it was very aromatic and went perfectly well with the Fish Pie - I was told it was not New World, hmmm. The secret is out - you have to go try for yourself!

“Over Rated”
Reviewed 17 March 2012

Usual Monday night fare and set price was not available. Did provide free drink as offset but one meal was very unsatisfactory and was not noticeably improved by return to the kitchen.

“For Beer Lovers”

A great way to try all their beers is to order a tasting paddle $A8. Their lunches are also very tasty ($A20-25)

“another great meal”
Reviewed 15 February 2012

A reviewer on January 15 mentioned the bottle of wine with a price of $4 on the wine list. We saw that on the list and asked our server what the real price was. She said she thought it was $48, so we asked her to confirm it and it was indeed $48. Perhaps an updated, corrected wine list is in order? Our server, quite young, energetic, and obviously new to the job, was confused about the daily special, and apparently hadn't been trained to pour wine into glasses with them sitting on the table (instead of her holding and tilting them), but no big deal. As usual, the food is the star. There is a Foodies Monday special that includes a main dish and a glass of mystery wine; the wine is identified to you at the end of the meal ($30). The main dish was a fabulous gnocchi with confit duck with and a green salad. Our other main was a fantastic lamb rack on a parsnip puree ($35). The Maddens Rise Shiraz ($45) was ok, but had a funny nose. We'll order another wine next time. The mystery wine that came with the gnocchi was a Cabernet Franc from Rutherglen (not sure of the winery). It was alright, but we'd probably not order it again (if we knew the name of the winery). But as usual, the food was great and we'll be back.
