Stayed here for our wedding anniversary. Privilege Suite was great. Great views, plenty of space. Estate grounds are nice, and is a lovely walk around. Staff were all friendly, cellar door tasting was good. Restaurant food was very good. There was a wedding on, but you would have never of known. No noise from our room. Highly recommend.

My fiancé and I spent a Sun night at Balgownie to explore the area and find ourselves a wedding venue. The staff were amazing from arrival to departure. We stayed in a 1 bedroom spa suite. Room was spotless and beautiful. Good size balcony, nice outlook, comfy couch & bed. Spa was clean & comfortably fits 2. The restaurant was the highlight of our stay. With so much to see and do and eat in the Yarra Valley I really wasn't expecting the star of the show to be the resort's own restaurant. How wrong I was. One of the best meals I've eaten! After a beautiful night of food and wine we were one of the last to leave at around 10pm. The great service didn't end there and I was further impressed by the staff when I asked a couple of questions about the wedding function room and was happily given a tour. I've become accustomed to hospitality staff who just want to get you out of the door and this was such a nice experience. I seriously cannot wait to come back again. I'll make it 2 nights next time!

We had an overnight stay in a privilege spa suite on a Sunday night. We arrived mid afternoon and after checking out our spacious well appointed room headed to the cellar door for a complimentary wine tasting. Balgownie estate certainly have some beautiful wines and we were very well hosted by the friendly man behind the counter. Dinner in Raes Restaurant was very good standard & value for money and beverage prices are reasonable.
We had a great nights sleep & a great selection at breakfast the next morning.
An added bonus was the 4 beautiful Ferraris parked on site!
All of the staff were very friendly!
I would highly recommend a stay at Balgownie Estate in the wonderful Yarra Valley!

Room Tip: The Spa suites are very large & comfortable

Having previously enjoyed an overnight stay in late October at the Balgownie Estate in Maiden Gully, near Bendigo, we recently travelled to the Yarra Valley, a place we had not been to for nearly ten years. With no pre-arranged accommodation we decided to check out the Balgownie Estate at Yarra Glen. From the stunning gardens and manicured lawns to the smooth efficiency and friendliness of the staff who greeted us upon our arrival, and the well appointed and stylish room set amid the gardens, it very clearly lived up to the recommendations of their staff at Bendigo.
From the Estate we toured the Valley and particularly enjoyed the nearby Yarra Valley 'Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery' (a must see) and lunched at the Innocent Bystander in Healesville. Another great choice. We ate dinner at Rae's restaurant in the Balgownie Estate and the slow roasted lamb dish complimented with an aged Estate shiraz was a triumph. Do yourself a favour and stay here the next time you're in the Yarra Valley.

This is our 4th visit to Balgownie Estate and we really love this place. The rooms overlook the vines and are always beautifully maintained. The only downfall this time was our lunch at Raes Restaurant. On our last visit about a year ago we would have rated our meal at Raes as one of the best we'd ever eaten - and we talked it up to our friends who were travelling with us this time - embarrassingly - I'd have to say I've had better meals at the local pub. Service was painfully slow and the food less than average for a venue of this calibre, as an Accor member we received a discount and its just as well really because I'd have hated to have to pay a cent more than we did.

Nonetheless, I'd stay at Balgownie again any day, staff are friendly and the grounds are lovely, I'd just venture further afield for a good meal and theres no shortage of excellent restaurants in the Valley.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience at Balgownie Estate. We really appreciate your feedback, and I have forwarded your comments about Rae's to the Restaurant Manager. Our new Chef arrives in April, and we are all very excited about the culinary delights, she has to offer. We hope you come back, and give the restaurant another try. Please call Karen Dixon on 9730 0700, so that I can make all the necessary arrangements for you.

Balgownie is a beautiful estate, the views are stunning. Our Prestige room was nice enough, however the black feet marks on the bottom of the shower did not entice me to even think about sitting in the bath for a spa. This is our third visit to Balgownie and we have previously loved our stays. Rae's restaurant is one of the reasons we returned as the food has always been of good quality. When entering the restaurant on this occasion, the restaurant was cornered off which unfortunately meant we were sitting extremely close to the couple on the next table. This lack of privacy totally spoilt my night. In hindsight we should have asked to be moved, but because there were so few tables it all seemed abit hard to make the request. Having said that, the food on the night was delicious. In the morning when we arrived for breakfast there were flies around the bread and the coffee station was so old fashioned that we actually left and went to a cafe on the way home, in my experience water urns usually mean the coffee will be cold and I didn't want to take the risk.
