Owner description: Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome. Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

We really enjoy the history, all the artifacts to the original owners to the third owners of the home! Learn so much about how they did things and why, plus the décor for history in generations. There is even bullet marks on the columns to show the battles where in the front lawn of this beautiful mansion!

Been to Nashville 3 times now and this was the first time I visited this plantation. It was a real delightful experience. We learned about it's historical element, prominence, and the lineage to winning horses in the Kentucky derby. The tour was quick and you can walk the grounds. The mansion looks pretty tiny as the surrounding open space is so vast. The only winery in the state of TN. Good place to be. All good things most come to an end, similar to the legacy of the Belle Meade (Beautiful Meadow) family.

If you like history, civil war era, there is a lot of history with this plantation. I really like how the era of the plantation is not altered and is presented as it was. Thoroughbred horses were the means of income back in the day here.

If you like history this is the place. Along with your self-guided tour of the grounds, guided tour of the house itself and then a wine tasting at the end, tickets are well worth the amount of information you get at this stop. There is also a gift shop and restaurant on the grounds. I didn't eat there but the place was full.

We (wife and I) visited in November...beautiful with the changing colors of the trees...the entire location was interesting and enjoyable. I'd recommend a visit if you are in the area.
