Owner description: Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome. Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

“Lovely and prestigious”

This beautiful home and estate was once a horse breeding farm for some of the most famous winners. The tour is hosted by folks in period costumes who explain the history of the estate and it's owners. The grounds are lovely as well. There's a small gift shop.

As much as we loved the tour, the reason we wnet was to find out more about the history of teh horse breeding and now wine making, however the tour cnetered on the holiday era of the family at the time. No pics aloowed indorrs unfortunately, nice place to picnic and walk around.

“Lovely tour guide”
Reviewed 19 November 2013

The tour guide of the main house was very knowledgeable and pleasant. It was a nice extra to have the complimentary wine tasting and he too was knowledgeable an entertaining. The people after us in line asked if they could have a AAA discount and were told yes. I wish it had been advertised on the sign because I would have liked to apply my AAA discount.

“Christmas program very interesting, tour a bit crowded.”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

They send guided tours though the mansion every half hour (I think), but there were too many people in our group, we thought, making us feel like we didn't get a good enough or long enough look at the different rooms. Overall an enjoyable experience though.

“Historical Stop in Nashville”
Reviewed 16 November 2013

Visited last weekend and were able to see the mansion decorated for Christmas already. It was beautiful and neat to hear about their Christmas celebrations and traditions. Prior to our tour, we were able to explore the grounds and walked around to the various buildings. Great history and beautiful fall colors still in tact! After the tour, there is a free (well included in the price of admission) wine tasting with 4 of their most popular wines. It was a nice treat!

PS Our tour was double because the tour guide prior to our tour time didn't show up. So we probably had 30+ on our tour. It would have been a better experience if less people were on the tour because it was hard to move around everyone to see the different elements of each room. I wish the tour guide could have done something, but I think they just wanted to keep things moving along.
